White spots in finger nails?

I have heaps of these in my finger nails.I have been told it is caused by insuficient zinc in your diet. I take a multi everyday & have a well balanced diet. I recently added zinc suppliments and the spots are still there. I have also been told it is bruising in your nails. Anyone have any idea?

Sounds like nail bruising, I have the spots and I'm jacked up on multi-vit/min anti-oxidants, it seems to be a genetic thing more than anything.

I have also heard that it could happen when you are tired and/or fell much stress for a long period

That is not zinc. It's calcium. If you don't have enough calcium in your diet, you get those spots. I used to get them too. Just add some calcium to your diet and they will go away. 100 %.

there is also magnesium :)

Worst case scenario... they could be the "Meig's lines" of chronic arsenic poisoning. You don't by any chance work in a shipyard or a foundry do you?

It could also be attributed to liver failure, but unlikely in this case just as arsenic poisoning is.

I heard its from too mucg sugar... when nails are soft not enough protein.

I don't think it'S because of calcium...

I alaways had these whites spots on my nails, and when I was young, I was drinking about a liter of milk a day...

but since I began ZMA, which is about 6 months ago, I don't have them anymore...I think the zinc did the job...

I have about half a litre of milk daily, plus a bit of ice cream & other dairy, i think thats enough. I do eat a bit of sugar though & my protein intake would be about an extra 40grams through suppliments on top of my normal diet which includes at least one serve of meat & eggs a day. The bruising sounds the most accurate as i am a boxer and baller so my fingers do take a pounding. Do you need other vitamins to aid in the digestion of zinc?????
Thanks for the responses guys.

Try adding ginger to the mix, it might help the digestion.....
