White Rice Vs. Brown Rice

Thanks, that was the only advantage I could think of..........but I recalled a thread a while back where someone was questioning why everyone ate brown instead of white.

brown rice retains the bran along with the endospore -- more nutrients are retained.

if you don't like the taste of brown rice, you're not preparing it properly.

and i almost forgot to add -- brown rice has triple or quadruple the fiber of white rice. reason enough right there.

I'd go with heregothere's reasons for choosing brown over white, rather than the GI values.

well, the added fiber is enough to do it for me......thanks for pointing this out.

i really have no qualms about eating brown instead of white........i love how it tastes just the same.....

if your not liking the taste..........add some garlic powder into the mix........diagnosis delicious

well white rice is bleached.

Correct. Its processed, treated with chemicals and much of its nutritional value is gone. I continually wonder why everyone seems to think brown rice, whole wheat or ANY grain (ok barly is an exception) is actually low GI.

Eat brown rice for all the same reasons you eat wheat bread instead of white. I think the taste and the texture are much better than white. Good brown rice has a nutty flavor and a good bite to it. Love my stir-frys over it. Warning, though. I tried to make brown rice once in my rice cooker and it came out totally jacked up. I've heard some models can handle it okay but most can't, so I just use a saucepan the old fashioned way.

I have heard they have brown rice sushi available in california.

I heard it from a vegan though.

are these rumors true????!

I hope so. Dallas is always the 3rd city to get whatever LA dreams up.
