Which tricep exercise first!

New member
Keep in mind that when I do a front double bicep shot I want triceps that hang like monsters.

I normally start off with tricep pushdowns and then follow with skull crushers and finish off with one arm reverse grip pressdowns with a stirup handle.

My query comes because even after I do the pushdowns I can still do more weight than the pushdowns with the skull crushers. So now Im thinking I should start off my triceps workout with skull crushers because I can go heavier on them.

What do you guys think?

(I allways use perfect form)

If you do that, make sure that the elbows are very warm b-4 you start the crushers.

I started doing mine on a bench in front of a low pulley(crushers) due to elbow tendinitis. I love them. Really hits the underneath belly.

I do two sets of reverse bent over hammer curls for the purpose of warming up the elbow. Then skull brushers (3 stes) and then finish with close grip bench (3 sets) or pull downs with a rope handle (3 sets). The rope handle really gets that extra burn at the end when you pull out after full extention.

I always do dips first. I find they really preexhaust your muscles. Then I always finish with horizontal dips(after pushdowns and skull krushers) with a couple of plates on my lap. Triceps kill me the next day.

This is what I do except I start with skullcrushers followed by pushdowns one tri day and reverse it on the next tri day.

First of all, don't worry about comparing weight amounts here. Cable weight and plate weight are rarely comparable. I think the order in which you do your tri excercises doesn't make much difference. It's how you do each one that will determine your gains. Long as you're staying nice and heavy on your lifts, you should be ok.

i prefer to start out with dips..warm the joint up, and pre exhaust the muscle. the i move on to either skull crushers or DB pullovers, and finish off with pressdowns...thats power right there.

I agree with heavywear, I do closegrip followed by weoghted dips, after that my tri's are usually spent. If not, I'll usually do some sort of cable exercise to burn um out.

don't worry about what to do first, more than remembering proper warm ups, and to shock your tris on occassion for growth. mix things up; change the order from week to week, keeping the same exercises during each session. my triceps grew largely from skull crushers, close grip bench, parallel bar dips, and some overhead dumbbell extensions. a nice little add on to skull crushers are close grip benching pressing the EZ bar, works well to pump the tris extra hard beyond failure. those are some good exercises, or you can try any of these below:

Dips Behind the Back (Bench Dips, or Reverse Push - Ups)
Dips (Triceps)
Dumbbell Kickbacks
Fixed Bar Triceps Extensions
Lying - Dumbbell Extensions
Lying Triceps Extensions
One - Arm Cable Reverse Pressdowns
One - Arm Triceps Extensions
Seated Triceps Presses
Standing Triceps Presses
Triceps Cable Pressdowns
Triceps Dip Machine

like i say, my personal favourites were the first ones i mentioned. i say they are very important for triceps mass.

Personally, I get really good results from close grip bench followed by skull crushers. Then, depending on the day, I might throw in some pressdowns.

maybe u would want to try close-gripped benchpress first since it is compound and the last set use about 2 forced reps. tricep pressdowns have always been the best for me though

Hmm looks like the first half of my Tricep day, do you think I overtrain? :D
