That's a tough one MS. I think you might have a tough time finding people who've been on more than one of those diets long enough to have an opinion.

In my case, I'm on the Hi Pro, Mod Carbs, Mod Fat diet (50/25/25). I've stuck to that for about 7-8 weeks now. Other than that, I tried the Adkins/Protein Power diet a while back. I lost a little weight, but only lasted for two weeks. I consider myself a disciplined guy when it comes to my health, but I just couldn't handle that diet.

Anyway, that seems to be working for me now. But I've got at least another four weeks to go, hoping to keep it up through Christmas, at which time I have a long, carbohydrate bender planned!

Maximum fatloss would be achieved by an anaerexic style diet. Almost no food, certainly no fat, and tons of cardio. Throw in some diuretics, amphetamines, fiber supplements and the ocassional emetic and "presto" you've lost LOTS of fat in a short period of time.

im curious as shit for the guy who lost 74 pounds in 4 1/2 months
bro did you lose a pair of legs too??
dont take my sarcasm to heart but thats alot of fucking weight what your curent stats im dying to know.

peace ,

Before:
Around 285lbs (i was into the diet for a week before i weighed myself)
Pants: 48
Shirt XXL 18 1/2 - 19

Now:
214lbs
Pants: 40 (almost in a 38 comfortably)
Shirt XL (17-17 1/2) I'll probably always be an XL. My family has huge upper body's.

Basically i've stuck to the diet that the book outlines. I don't cheat, not even a bite or 2. I exercise 3-4 times a week, mainly cardio although i have done a little bit of weights and added some muscle.

In response to my PM: Yes, most people i know have noticed. Mainly those that i go for a month or 2 at a time without seeing. I can tell in the mirror, but its still tough to gauge for yourself when you see what you look like everyday. I'm still scale happy, but i've gone through 2 week periods where i won't loose a single pound, yet drop a size in my waist. I'm burning fat faster than my cells can shrink ;).

If there is one thing Atkins has taught me, its that you can't cheat. Cheating will screw you up, and make you physically feel bad. Overall, i have a lot more energy than i used to. Lowered Blood pressure, cholesterol, all of that stuff.

Here's a pic of me a week into Atkins. Its tough to see me, but i'm the one in the hat in the middle of the pic. My car club is having another carshow this saturday so i'll try to get an updated pic some time in there.

Now that i stare at that pic, i can tell a huge difference. Granted, that shirt was to big, but you wear what you can grab ;)

Also, i take the following supplements:
Potassium
CoEnzyme Q10
Atkins Dieters Advantage
Atkins Basic #3 Multivitamin.

I feel that the multivitamin and potassium are the most beneficial.
The only problem i ran into were leg cramp at night. Since i can't eat banannas or sweet potatoes, my only good source of potassium is broccoli. Which rocks IMO!

I am doing high protein about 200a day/moderate carbs 100-130 a day
and 30gram fat or less :)

i dont count cals because i dont wanna stress about it:) i have mad time to change my body

I am not an expert on diets at all, but I think the reason that people fail on their diets is that they think it is so strict. I do not think of myself on a "diet," I just dont eat shit. And I am still making good gains. I have lost about 40 punds, and have made steady increase in strength and size. I read about all of these kinds of diets, maybe I am just not into it as much as other people, maybe I am dumb about it. I can see people who are absolutely religious about weight lifting (and I do not mean just dedicated, I mean those that want to compete) going and doing those sort of diets, but i just recomend eating better, cut the shit out, and eat basic, good stuff.

But also the reason so many fail is that they completely cut that stuff out that they love so much, like cake and cookies and things like that. I plan a cheat day every two weeks, where I can eat whatever and not feel guilty. I do not go completely wild on these days, because I have lost some of the cravings for most things.

And yes I do realize none of you will read this because it is a damn novel.

I've only ever tried high protein, low fat, low carb diets....

.... and they've worked okay.

No idea how much muscle I lose each time, though.

Completely cutting out cookies, chips, sweets, etc. is what has made me not want them. I think most people would be suprised at what they can live without and don't really need if they'd just go 2 - 3 weeks without it. Abstenince is what breaks most people from addictions, and most sweets are not just a "favorite", they are a food addiction. Its like telling a alcoholic "1 beer is ok" and a chain smoker that "1 smoke won't kill you".

Hell, if my tubby butt can make it for 4 1/2 months without: Cookies, Cake, Ice Cream, Potatoe Chips, French Fries, Soft Drinks, Caffiene, Pizza, Taco's etc, then theres NO excuse for anyone to not be able to give those things up.

Cravings are the first sign of addiction.....for ANYTHING. :)

Uh, 1 more thing to add, i still don't see why people thing you lose muscle mass on Atkins. esp. seeing how my muscle mass has gone up. I hear that same line of BS CONSTANTLY, and, i for one, should be considered proof that with half decent exercise you can put on muscle while eating the Atkins way.

The only time your body is going to burn muscle for energy is when you are fasting and carb/fat intake is low. This makes sense since your body doesn't have a source of fuel coming in. A fat can be burned for energy just like a carb. In fact, 1 lipid molecule produces what, twice the energy of a carbohydrate? The break-down process and release of ATP just takes longer.

Isocaloric/animalbolics combination diet has been the best diet for me the keto diets work but only when your on them come off a keto diet and boom here comes the weight again and fast at least in my experience same with atkins most of your extremely low carb diets have a drastic rebound effect.

Yep, Atkins has the WORST rebound effect of any diet i've seen if you don't spend time adding on carbs properly and maintaining a lower carb lifestyle.

So what is the best diet for maximum fat loss while maintaining maximum mass/strength? Im not HUGE so i don't want to lose more hard earned muscle than i have to. It seems like Atkins but many say that results are lost after the ketogenic diets

Well, i've gained a little muscle since i've been on Atkins (and i STRESS a little) but i really don't lift weights. I have some 15lb hand weights and i do pushups. I have gained some muscle in my legs as well. The only time your going to shoot yourself in the foot with Atkins is when your return to an old style of eating. People who do Atkins are making lifestyle changes to their diets. IMHO, cyclical keto diets should be used by those who are heavy into training and are planning on body building. I'm kind of biased on a lot of other diets, but i'm undiagnosed Hypoglycemic so you have to understand where i'm coming from. Its taking extreme measures to get me heathy, and i often forget that not many are in the same boat as me.

Theres no reason for anyone to LOSE muscle while in Ketosis. BUILDING muscle is very hard since you don't have a glycogen store, but the only reason your body has for burning muscle is because it needs an energy source. 150 grams of fat/day is just as good of an energy source as 150 grams of carbs/day.

Actually, the fat has been better for me than the carbs, but, like i said, i'm hypoglycemic.

low carb

i always thought that a low carb diet worked by cutting carbs the body uses stored fat as energy and the protien you eat makes sure you dont burn muscle

Grubber - All your body is doing on a low carb diet is burn fat for energy instead of carbs. Its not the "intended" pathway to produce energy, but it works well. After all, if it were the intended path, no one would be overweight :)

CKD is probably the best "all around" diet for those interested in building muscle as well.

it's designed mainly to allow for lean gains while still running your body through ketosis.

I rarely suggest it and know of only probably a few that would stick to it.

The best things are usually not easily attainable - as we all should know.

definately extreme low carb diet

A month ago I did did a low carb diet with only taking in 50 -100 grams max a day, and i lost about 8 lbs of fat and kept up the cardio about 45 mins 5 days a week. I know 8lbs isnt alot to lose but i only wieghed 175 5'9 and i didnt have much fat on me, i was just trying to see if the diet worked and to see how cut i could get. Now i know what diet to do before summer.
