A little bit off topic, but it kinda relates?

I have some Cephalexin and Amox. for precautionary reasons(incase of a bad stick), and was wondering if it would work for an infection I got in my finger from a fish hook(long story). How much/day for how long?

I'm no doctor, but post dental implants we give Amox 500mg 21 tabs (1 every 8 hours) till finished. This is for precautionary measures against infection...also use the same Rx for someone that comes in w an abcess. That's what I would try. Don't know about the Ceph...Good luck. Is it infected already? Have you tried a topical ointment like Bactroban?

this may help some....as im going through a bad ass infection right now. on nov. 5th i had a staph infection cut out from under my arm it was the size of my fist im a 308 in power lifting. it started out as a small heat rash pimple weve all had them. now this was at 7pm i took a shower and went to bed in the morning it was bigger then a golf ball on the outside and as big as a pool ball on the inside and i couldnt put my arm down..in the hosp. they gave me 6 grams of unicyn(sp) iv drip w/ every iv fluid bag around the clock for 4 days after that they gave me 1500mg keflex(sp) (500mg 3xday) for 5days, now at the end of the antibiotics i felt good and had no further symptoms so i thought now on the 3rd day i wake up with an unusual heat rash pimple on my other elbow also 2 on the inside of my left bicep and 1 on my left ribs.....so you know my reaction i about shit my self because i had just done reserch and found that it can lay dormant once it breeches the skin and can mutate as soon as 48 hrs to render antibiotics useless also it can come in the form of ca-mersa wich is the nastiest strain of staph wich is toxic as well as imune to all forms of antibiotics taken oraly ....in my opinion there is a high degree of danger in self medicating with antibiotics because in the hospital they gave me a blood test as well as a swabbed wound coulture to see exactly what it was and what antibiotics would kill it..in my opinion the danger comes from breeching the skin at injection site with staph living readily avalible on the skin surface,also the infection masking itself not as a lump or anyother seriously noticeable skin iritation. also staph grows inward to a heat source when they got mine it was 2 cm from the inner chest cavity wall close to my heart. the only thing i see bad with self medicating with antibiotics is this most of the time you take them for an oil abcess or try and get something quickly before it gets out of hand...well you may get rid of the oil abcess and in its place you may have something worse and not even know it....in my case the only symptoms i had were a fever out of the blue and anger for no known reason....with infection it can alter state of mind as im the kind of person thats gets mad for about 5 min and then its done the anger and frustration would last all day long......your normal dosage would be 500 3xday ....for me i was taking 6 times that dosage for a longer duration and it came back in 3 new spots because it hadnt cleared my lymphatic system....as a side note my infection was not injection related and my h.s. football coach died from ca-mersa trying to self medicate
