Whey Protein Dilemma

My friend said that takin in just whey protein is not beneficiial because there is no carbs with it...is there any truth to thjat?
 
it is still beneficial... An insulin spike can help shuttle the nutrients in more quickly, so people use sugar post workout because after a workout your body is in a state of repair and needs to utilize those nutrients immediately. Rest of the day, protein alone is fine
