I want to start taking whey protein, I have a decent amount of protein from the fish\chicken\meat that i eat. However, my mom asked her nutritionist about whey and the nutritionist said i already have enough and i don't need any more protein. My mom is a very ignorant person who will believe anything a doctor\nutritionist says and since I live under my parents roof they have a say in what suppliments I can take.

I consume almost exactly 105g of protein a day, maybe a little more. I weigh about 140 pounds.

Does anyone have any articles that show it is ok to take protein and it does not cause liver failure or anything. Anything from the FDA would be great.

The protein debate rages - even on these boards - about how much protein is too much or too little....you can run a search and find many arguments on that very subject....most without any resolution at all. Most generally devolve into slurs against the sexuality of the proponents (i.e. "you do/do not need that much protein....you're gay!").

In any event, you won't find many (if any) articles endorsed by the FDA advocating a high protein diet....because the fact of the matter is the FDA has the interests of the average Joe in mind - and the average Joe does not throw the IRON around like we do here on Elite!!

I may have something that will help you bro! I read your post awhile ago and was wishing I could do something to help, well here it is.

Go as fast as possible as you can to your local GNC and grab the Adrenaline magazine that they give customers for free. Inside on page 24 there is a huge article on protein and how much should be used by athletes!

Hope this helps, dont give up.

I wish I had the citation.

There is at least one study conducted showing up to 2 g protein / lb of bodyweight per day over six months is completely safe.

Contact flex magazine for info. www.flexonline.com I read the summary of it in there ...
