Whey.. micro-filtered/ultra-filtered/ion-exchange/

I was curious as to if anyone what the big difference is between the way whey is processed. Which is best for building muscle? Does micro, ion or ultra
work better than the other if so and why? Im assuming one assimilates better than the other but Im not sure.. or is this just another way for supplement companies to market protein.

Thanks

I'll take a shot...

The different types of whey are indicative of they way they are processed, filtered, purified, etc. as a by-product of cheese, e.g., cross-flowed, ion-exchanged, micro-filtered. The whey's differ slightly in their amino acid profiles and the amount of protein per 100 grams. If I'm not mistaken, ion-exchanged has the highest amount of protein per serving, where CFM has a better amino acid profile.

You can YAHOO or GOOGLE for more info.

yep microfiltereed retains a particular class/classes of protein fractions etc than ionexchange method.

the acids hydrolysis (doesn't this means the removal of water?) peaks with peptide fractions.

a nice blend see: proteinfactory would be a good bet. plus flavour/enzymes .. etc.,., you know thats ALL GOOD!!!

Well doesnt that depend on the type of result you are looking for?

if you are talking about for instance caloric intake then yes you could weigh the amounts until there was equality.

however there are differences the ion exchange version has a higher % protein than the concentrate. So if maximising protein % for any reason is important then you cannot just add more of the other to achieve result.

its an age old question. Most people would add various degrees of caarbohydrate to thier protein powders and this is arguably the same as equating the protein%'s between the isolate and the concentrate.

A lot of work has been done isolating the protein /fractions in Whey and the particular profile a list of those fractions have in the isolate version and the concentrate are also different. the cfm version is generally granted a healthier general protein profile.

when we are discussing protein fractions in whey they are usually considered in terms of the presence or not of peptides and in what amounts and the prescence or not of large primary milk proteins like alpha / beta milk proteins. The CFM and hydroslate versions maintain a higher percentage of intact useful protein fragments. In the hydroslate version the proteins are clearly as fragments called generally peptides which are easilty digestible - heck hydroslates are pre-digested already ok.
wheras the cfm version maintains the peptide fragments in the greater alpha / beta protein structure.

these protein structures if well digested and assimilated represent a very wealthy reservoir of protein peptides well suited to high quality body functions.

but basically can't you just take more of a CFM whey and get the same benefits as whey-isolate?

I guess

You pay way more for some hyped protein powder while the difference in final result (anabolism) is, IMO, negligible.
