When you're late for work...

do you call? My coworker just called in (15 minutes after he should've been here) to say he'd be here in 5 minutes. At that point why even call? Just bring your narrow ass in.

lol @ narrow ass

Nope. ...but then, I only work 12 hours a week, and I'm in a position where they need me much more than I need them. :)

I call on my way in if I think there's a chance I'll be 2 seconds late. They tease me about it because I'm never late. I just think it's the right thing to do.

I call if I am more than a half hour late.
Generally, I am late but I am doing work related things outside of the office.

in my line of work , if you even think you will be late , you better had call or youre fucked

i love it when people would call in to me when i was in the navy and the shift supervisor. im pretty laid back and let it slide once or twice, but when they show up late with a coke in their hand i get mad. they had time to get a coke but couldnt be in work on time. idiots.

work starts when I get there, so, no, I don't call. I sometimes call my assistant and ask her to get me a bagel and herself a coffee. That's about it.

I am typically 10-15 minutes early whereas some people don't arrive for 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. I like to be first to find out about computer problems.

Because traffic & the train system are so bad in this area, as long as I'm in by 10am, I'm good. Just means I have to stay later.

Same with me. I found a good way to get out of being in trouble if you are late but it can only be used once in a blue moon.

I have woken up late once or twice when the power went out. So I get up, wake myself up, then grab the phone and turn my fan on high. I then call work with my head and the phone right in front of the fan and tell them my car broke down or I got a flat tire or something and I am on the side of the road waiting for a friend to come help me. The key is to back in and out of the "wind" from the fan and I swear, it sounds EXACTLY like cars driving by. I have used that trick about 4 times in my life and it works like a charm every time. Other than that I am always a few minutes early so thats lends to my "street cred". :)

I am never late ... I get to work about 60-90 minutes before I am supposed to actually be there. I am contracted to be there at 8:20am, and if I consider myself "late" if I am there at 7:30am.

BUT, if something were to happen and I was going to be late, I would call - without a doubt. It is just the responsible thing to do. But then again, I also call my doctor's offices if I even THINK I will be 1 minute late for an appointment.

I usually bribe my boss with a nug of chronic when I'm late..works like a charm everytime.

No.

I'm usually here til like 7 or 9pm. Coming in 30 or 60 mins late is irrelevant. They can call me if they need something.

dont i use to know it..... in the navy i have had many talks with workers. the excuses they come up with are hallarious. one guy called and said he was going to be late. i asked where was he. he said north carolina. we were in maryland. i said so how late do you think your gonna be? it was a retoricle question. his dumb ass answered and said ill get there when i catch the next flight. yea, i sent him up the chain for that one. commanding officer had a field day with it.

I always call before I`m due at work if I`m gonna be late....I think its more responsible to do so when people are expecting you..

yes i call each time when i think i'm going to be late.

I will if I'm going to be late because it lessens the chance my boss will be a dick and write me up.

He wrote me up once for being like 4 minutes late...wtf?

Team player right here folks.

My old job was HUGE on face time........didn't matter if you made up the time or not - if you were going to be late, you HAD to call or get written up. But only the "unspecial" people got written up - the special ones could be as late as they wanted with no recourse....

I ALWAYS call in.......my boss is a cocksucker.......job security, ya know. :)
I thought you worked for yourself

I call if I think I will be more then 5 minutes late.

i tend to be there early, miss breaks and leave late and so always had a lot of cred, but i like letting people know where i am, so id call on the road saying "looks like ill be a couple of minutes late, im on so and so street, so relax"

imo the important thing is to stop people freaking out and calling casual staff at home. a couple minutes is niether here nor there, but the rest of your team not knowing wtf is going on destroys your dependability, which is a disaster imo. better to be averagely skilled and dependable than be brilliant at your job, but be unreliable

plus, ive found that lots of people are depressed, spiteful dickheads at work, and will pick up on even mild tardiness to demonise you, even if theyre useless at their job themselves. narrow minded pricks

my boss (conscience) threaten to knock me an hrs pay for being late i think i'm gonna be late today to see what happens ....lol

RADAR

nope, we have this system Flex-time, where basically, as long as you work MINIMUM 40 hours a week you are good to go. My boss took that to the next level and as long as shit gets done he doesn't really care if we work 120hours/week or 10 hours/week.

It's a big change from my previous Director, who used to be a micromanagement freak...

End results are what matters.

If, on the other hand, I'm not coming, and it's not a home-office planned day, I will write to say "yo, I ain't coming today, this or that happened"...

If I'm running late for a customer meeting, that is another story, first I'm very cautious NOT to be late for those, specially here, second, If I'm stuck in traffic, major cause of delays, I will call. If I know I will be more than 15min late, I will ask to reschedule

ill just usually spend the night before in the parking lot so i know i wont oversleep

lmao.....my buddy used to do that. He'd go out all night, pull into his parking space at work around 5 a.m., and then wake up in a couple hours go inside, dust himself off, unwrinkle his clothes.......throw some coffee down his throat, and WHAMMO......good as new.

For me, if I am late, that would mean the plane would just leave without me. So no, I am never late for work.
