When will i start to be in ketosis??

Hi, I've been on the adtkins diet for about 4 days now, and i bought some ketone strips to see if i was in ketosis. There was a hint of pink. So i was wondering how long does it take to get into ketosis? Also where can i find information on the CKD diet?

Thanks:)

There is a sticky on CKD's at the top of the forum. You should be in ketosis already. How many carbs are you eating (make sure to check condiments, seasonings and everything), what type of GI do they have? Are you eating enough fat? Are you eating too much protien? I go into ketosis in less than 24 hours.

I know I stay under 20 carbs a day. I also have noticed some of the things i get have a little bit of sugar in them like 3 grams. I don't count how much fat i take nor do i count how much protein i take in. This is my first time starting this diet and i'm kinda lost on how to do it right. I also havent started working out yet because for the past couple of days i've been feeling kinda weak. It's also been hard for me to find things to eat on this diet cause i'm not a big vegetable eater.

If you have more suggestions or food ideas please let me know.

Thanks alot

you should be in ketosis already; either recheck your diet or increase your activity regardless of feeling weak; do some jogging, treadmill or light weight training; even walking will do, just burn those leftover carbs.
if nothing helps then there are cases where the ketostix do not work, they are not 100% reliable. You should have lost some pounds of weight already. Its mostly water but an indication of low carb intake because water binds to carbs and if carb stores get depleted the water will be excreted.

There are a good amount of things to eat. Although it seems counter productive because it goes against normal thinking, you will want to consume more fat than protein to get into ketosis. Once there, you can even out the protein and fat. It's a good idea to keep a log, just so you can monitor what habits may keep you in or kick you out of ketosis. Here is a list of things I keep in my fridge on CKD:

Mayonaise made with Canola oil.(Made with Soy Oil is fine as well)
Johnsonville Polish Sausages
Deli Turkey
Tuna in water and Tuna win Oil
Olive Oil
Flax Oil
String Cheese
Chedder Cheese
Eggs
Bacon
Low Carb Tortilla
Natural Peanut Butter
Macadamia Butter
Macademia Nuts
Pecans
Pepperoni
Lettuce, cucumbers, celery, spinich

There are a ton of other things to eat as well. If you don't want to eat vegatables, be sure to get a good multi vitamin and maybe some fiber supplements.

Here is a link to Mr.X CKD manual:
Mr. X's CKD Manual As, BodyByFinaplix said there is also a calorie and macro counter Mr.X developed that is a sticky on the top of the forum.

Good Luck!

how about salami and hotdogs??
what type of food u eat before bed......higher in protein or higher in fat??
thanks.

So exercising also puts u in ketosis to? I just thought not eating alot of carbs would put you in to ketosis. Bab thanks for the food ideas those are all items i would eat. I have lost about 3 to 4 pounds already, and before bed i probally eat more fat then protein.

Thanks for all your input, and i gonna start working out tonight
and hopefully i get into ketosis sometime soon.

Well exercising depeletes glycogen - and in the absence of glycogen, and provided you are eating enough fat, your body which start using ketones as fuel (hence putting you into ketosis).

And like others have mentioned - don't rely on the ketostix or you'll start going crazy when they don't turn purple. You can be in ketosis and show no sign of it on those little sticks. Eat a diet of 70% fat, 30% protein (trace carbs) for a few days and there's no way you won't reach ketosis.

hi been on atkins over a month now and now converting to ckd
first two weeks of atkins are strict
i followed all the rules and at the most i saw a moderate ketosis level
but i still lost 2 inches and a ful shirt size
the real indicator is a mirror
how do your clothes look on u
i am going on ckd for two reasons i want to bulk up in certain areas....arms and shoulders and chest and reduce my waist
i have never been in deep ketosis too many factors prevent that in modern day
but diet and yes hi fat is good and work out

good luck
let me know if this helps alittle karma helps

The weirdest thing happened yesterday. I worked out for only about 45 minutes, a little later i tried one of the stix just for the heck of it and it came out purple. So i guess the little execise i did helped me get in to ketosis.
Thanks for all you comments the really helped.

Salami looks good....Be weary of Hot dogs and be sure to look at the nutritional info. Different brands may slip some carbs in there. I don't eat hot dogs just because of the stories I have heard about the processing and ingredients(probably all psychological). I go with sausages instead.

If your goal is some weight loss while mainting muscle mass, I would go with both protein AND fat before bed. You want the protein to process slowly throughtout the night and the fats allow that to happen. Unless you wake up every 4 hours to go eat, this is probably the way to go. Before bed, I usually take 1 - 2 scoops of whey and 1-2 tsbp of flax oil. How much depends on which day of CKD. On "fatty" days (like day 1 and 2) probably 2 tsp flax and 1 scoop whey. And then for the rest of the days I will even it out.

Not eating a lot of carbs will put you in ketosis(it may take a while though, because ideally you want all glycogen stores depleted to enter ketosis) but on CKD we want to get in there ASAP and at the same time maintain our muscle mass. After carbing up, we will have the energy(full glycogen stores) for the first 2-3 days to work out hard, to keep our muscle mass. Take full advantage of that. By day 2 or 3, glycogen should be depleted assuming you work out hard and kept the fat intake up. Then you can even out to around 1:1 protein:fat and maintain ketosis. You defintely want to get some cardio in there everyday, in short seessions so as to not overtrain. Remember, your body is using fat for energy, so if you excercise, you can speed your results!

Also, dont be suprised if you GAIN 6-7 lbs after your carb up. It's all water/glycogen weight and by day 3-4 will be gone again. You should totally gauge you results by body fat loss and the way you looks/clothes fit. Congrats on your losses!

Keto sticks never worked for my. At first I tried them twice a day for 2 weeks. I was NEVER in keotsis, but my body showed signs. Believe me, you will know those signs(bad breath, body odor, some signs of weakness, smelly urine). I was drinking up to 13-15L of water in a full day. My friend told me that was probably why. One day I didn't drink as much water and it showed positive. If you budget allows and you are serious about mainting ketosis, a glucose meter would be a good investment.

Good luck!

Hey, let me tell you about my experience with those damn keto sticks. The first time I Carb-depleted, I went 6 days 0 carb! I did every body part 20 sets x 20 reps, to deplete, and those sticks never changed to purple, only slightly pink. I read that meant I was not depleted or in ketosis! BS!!!!!! That was 20 years ago. Now after years later I have told this story to some other people, and found out from a Doctor that a few just don't register on the Keto sticks.
I have talked to a few people that go to purple in just the 2nd day of no carbs, so I guess everyoone is a little different. A
