when the weights touch the ground should I stop, untense my muscles, making the weight "dead again". Or should I have the weights barely touch the ground and immediately come back up in one smooth motion with out resting the weights? Iv been doing it the second way so far.

Im 30 and would like to gain strength if that matters.
 
I always put them back on the floor after every rep.
I've been always doing it like that, I assumed it's the correct way to do it.
 
From what I have read the correct way to perform a deadlift is to let the weight drop to the floor, release tension and lift.

Hense the name "Dead" Lift.

This is how I have always peformed them as well. Same way I have been taught back in school.
 
Yep it is best to let the bar come to a rest on the floor. If you really want to feel it let go of the bar stand up then reset your grip in between reps.

alright, I guess I better switch up my technique then. I will say though, doing 3 sets of 8-10 gives you hella pump in you hams and lower back.
 
Most people bench with a touch and go style for muscle development. I suggest the same approach with deadlifting. Don't bounce the weight - just touch and go.
If you're peaking for a deadlift competition then stick to singles - since only the first rep counts.
 
Yes I believe its is correct form to let the weights settle back on the floor, reset your back, legs & mid section then imediately go into the next rep. If you can bounce them off the floor you are probably not using enough weight although you can see Ronnie using almost this style on a weight that would bury most of us under the floor.
