When doing a bulking cycle.....

Should you concentrate on fats or carbs as your second most important nutrient? My last bulker I used protein and carbs and little fats and the results were 50/50 ratio of fat gain to LBM gain. This time I'm going to only use carbs as pre and post workout replenishment and eat all my other meals as fat/protein meal. Of course I'll be eating surplus calories so I can gain, but do you think the decreased carbs will make the fat gains slower? Does anyone have any experience with this? Almost all of the fats are poly/mono unsaturated.

It takes a lot more than just one high carb post workout meal to replenish muscle glycogen. Muscle glycogen replenishment can take up to 48 hours. It is suggested for hard trainnig atheletes that in order to replensih muscle glycogen you should ingest .25g of carbs per pound of bodyweight every one to two hours following your training session for 24 full hours. Carbs also promote the release of insulin which is HIGHLY anabolic. It aids in amino acid transport, initiates muscle glycogen synthesis, and decreases muscle protein degredation. If you're really gaining that much fat during a cycle something is wrong with your caloric intake, training, or metabolism. You really shoudn't gain much fat at all if you're eatting correctly. Many people mistake the water retention with a high calorie, high carb diet and the use of AS for actual fat. High intensity training is dependent on muscle glycogen to be fueled. Without full muscle glycogen your workouts will be limited in intensity and suffer.

how much do you weigh and how many calories did you eat? Milos Sarcev and Gunter both suggest eating 2g of protein per lb of bodyweight and 2g of carbs per lb of bodyweight, carbs being a starting point, should be adjusted upward if gains are not comming, fats kept down to 10%
