When do you think bodybuilders first started using Growth Hormone?

GH late eighties for sure. I attended a seminar with former Pro Ron Love in 1988. Someone asked him about cycles and in particular deca....Love looked at the guy with pity and told him that Gh was the bomb. he had a Dr. friend in detroit taking care of it. And he was absolutley huge....around 260 with abs. and a tall guy.

Ok so it was invented in the late 60's

Now if I where a competive bodybuilder in the late 60's early to late 70's and I was already using steroids and someone told me about this new drug, GROWTH hormone. What do you think my reaction would be?

Well obviously I would be dying to find out more about it and where I could get my hands on it.

So there is a high possibility that the top guys in the late 70's where using some growth hormone.

Now Lee Priest was asked something like, why are the bodybuilders today so much bigger and ripped than in Arnolds day? Have genetics changed so much in such a short time?

Priest tried to say that it was down to the fact that more guy's are competing and therefore you have a larger genetic pool, so you are going to get some genetic freaks.

Well I say "bullshit" how can a 5 ft 4" dwarf compete today at 230 lb's and 3% bodyfat, when just over 20 years ago the best bodybuilder in the World "Arnold" at 6 ft 2" tall was competing at 235 lb's and probably around 6% bodyfat???????????

As I have said before, steroids cannot alter genetics, but Growth hormone can.

I bet lee priest wishes he had got some GH when he was a child.

There are a lot of normal guys walking around in gyms today bigger than arnold and thos guys from back in the day.

Yes Adaptek he probably does wish he had GH when he was younger.

However these normal guy's you are refering to, that are bigger than Arnold, are also using a hell of a lot more drugs than Arnold ever used, both in variety and quantity.

just for the record Lyle Alzado died of AIDS....
his immune system was destroyed by HIV which leads to cancers in some cases.

True!

I think the first one to use the Insulin/Growth for massive results was Yates between 92 and 93. The improvements made were incredible, and this was after his first Olympia win.

I'm not sure who led the way in the GH use, but madmitch is definitely on the right track. GH is the only thing that has been shown to cause hyperplasia (an increase in the number of muscle cells), everything else just causes hypertrophy (an increase in the size of the existing cells.)
