WHEN do you bulk????!!!!!

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman

Ok, as most people know very well...I NEVER diet. What is the point? I can eat sensible and in large amounts and continue to grow while staying "decently" lean. Do I have ripped abs? NO!!! Am I big? YES!!!

If people start dieting in December to get ready for Spring Break (March) then diet a little more to look good for Summer (May-August) then get started back to school/job/etc..., then they spend a while planning their diet out and never really eating enough to gain much....OR they find that they don't have time to diet or they start to get afraid of getting fat again...and the next thing that you know it is December...AGAIN............WHEN THE HECK DO YOU EVER BULK???!!!

People tend to forget that if you are dieting...you probably should have bulked first. If you only diet or restrict your kcals...you are NOT going to get BIG or HUGE!!! You are also not going to become insanely strong either!!!

As I have said time after time...set short-term goals. Set long-term goals. Make DARN sure that your short-term goals assist your long-term goals. Dieting for 9 months out of the year WILL NOT accomplish much except for keeping you skinny and weak.

Make a plan and stick to it. I make my plans for 8 weeks as well as 6 months and one year plans. They all tie into one another too. Do yours???

Think people...think.

i'm doing a ckd diet and i'm losing too much strength. that's hindering my new goals that i made yesterday.

would it be possible to get leaner while eating good to gain strength/size by doing a tiny bit of cardio but not enough to go below my BMR?

I usually bulk 3-4 months a year where i eat till Im going to puke every meal... then I eat slightly above BMR... probably around 300-500 cals or so for another 3-4 months.. then I cut the other portion of the time.... However my cutting diets compared to others are a lot less stressful... I don't reduce my calories by too much.. take the weight loss nice and slow...

I generally bulk from sept to early spring, then drop some bf for summer. This time I'm bulking for alomst 10 months straight then getting ready for a contest in the fall

bump? maybe this might not be possible due to my bodytype and it would only work for somebody like B?

I'll be bulking mostly till March, and then I'll be doing my cycle diet again to cut for summer, I don't like the gut look in a swimsuit and I'm not out to look massive, just muscle bound and cut, which is what the girls like.

What I do is go somewhat below 10 calories per pound of lean muscle for 3 days, (maybe 7 calories per pound) then just before starvation mode kicks in I go up to 18 calories per pound for 2 days. I may lose a little muscle but it burns a ton of fat, I'll also do a lot more cardio during this time.

Its the only thing that helped me lose 4 inches of lard off my waste over the this past summer. I'm hoping that if I bulk up and gain more muscle it will be a little easier than that 4 inches.

how do you do that?

yes, how do you do that?

I am blessed with a quick metabolism.... so i burn fat quick and grow like a weed.

I just wrote up a diet to cut down my bf down to 10% which i intend on achieving by March.

Aside from that... i eat as if i'm bulking everyday, and gain a pound rarely. :)

I usually just eat the protein, and make sure I'm never hungry... I stay away from candy, tons of sugar, pizza (sorry bfold :) ) and really shitty food... but I have no problem with a 6 dollar burger! :)

I am in the same situation. I tryed the CKD (maybe i didn't do it so well and i should wait more time to see how it worked-til body get used to ketones (?)) and my strenght went away quickly.
I am now doing a 50/30/20, and almost all carbs are consumed around the workout, that gives me energy to keep lifting heavy. I also added some cardio.
I think it will work well even if the fat loss wont be as quick.

Good post B. This has always bugged me.

I started bulking when I was 140 lbs.

I'll probably start my first cutting phase when I get over 300 lbs.

i think you make a good point b fold but you should remember that not all people want to be a strongman.
some guys are in this for the ladies and want to have an 8 pack and stay smaller instead.

dieting for like 9 or 10 months a year is a total joke tho haha where did that come from/

i bulk all the time. i went a little overboard this past 1/2 year. nothing that eating decent and sprints can't fix.
