I broke my right clavicle 8 days ago, and i'm getting stir crazy now. I am thinking that i might be able to start back in the gym pretty soon, i might try some cardio tommoro. My shoulder is pretty much pain free, i was just curious if anyone else has had this injury and how long you took off from the gym. I think i'll go insane if i can't get out and do something soon, i need that endorphin release badly.
The doc said 8 weeks away from rugby, but i am begining to think i might be back in 4 to 6 weeks.

p.s. My shoulder is a nice bumpy looking thing now too, it will always be like this too. What a great souvenoir rugby gave me, i can put it with my busted nose, bent and broke toe, and numerous scars. God i love this game.

Bare your scars with pride:
Don't listen to what people say about your disfigured nose and face! It's only jibberish and they are jealous! I am jealous of your now afflicted shoulder, and wish I had one myself! You are one of the few my friend! Adorn your batteredness for the world to see.

My advice is try around week 6 but start very light. If u feel pain substitute the exercise with another. DO NOT TRAIN THROUGH THE PAIN as this will aggrevate it and cause further injury. If most movements cause pain wait another week or so. Aim for high rep sets instead of increasing your weight. Once u feel u are able to move up try it but keep the weight light. My best guess is you probably have some scar tissue around the break. After you are completly healed u may experience pain with certain movements or doing exercises in certain angles...this will probably be stiff scar tissue that needs to be made smooth. I found that ART (active release technique) works wonders on scar tissue. Good luck and be patient :)

K2, i do bare my scars and busted bones with pride. Do you also play the greatest game on earth, rugby?

Nature Boy, i won't be bouncing for awhile, that pisses me off alot too cause i have a blast doing it.

MuSuLPhReAk, do you think it would be alright to start some cardio soon? i was thinking of trying seated cycling or something non-impact. My cardio before was one of the best on the team and i really would like to keep it up there, i hate starting from scratch again.

Sure some cardio would increase blood flow which in turn will help u heal faster. Don't overdo it as this can have a reverse effect too. Get plenty of rest...you're body repairs when u are at rest.
