What are you going to do this new year for a workout today?
Im going to go for a run and hit lift chest and shoulders and prolly a bike ride

goal this year is to get back into running 5Ks.. was competative in 2001 but haven't been able to break 28 mins for the past 3 years! Gonna at least get to 25 mins and then see how it is.. I was 165lbs when I was running in 2001.. could break 20 mins then too..

fucking high school though.. 17 mins was max you'd spend on 3 miles... i can't even imagine that5 now

I've been having a problem with the front of my lower legs, the pump in the front gets too painful when I run too fast. It drives me nuts, I try and run to get them warmed up and that seems to help and then stretch them and walking for a bit.
I think its anterior compartment syndrome. Not sure what to do about it.
I trained for a marathon a few years back, got up to twenty miles on my sunday long runs, never ran it. Its a goal I make every year to do it once in my life to run that damn marathon, maybe this is the year, I said that last year though lol

I've had that many times man. Most people call it "shin splints" but that term is typically applied generally for any lower leg pain not directly in the calf or joints.

You feel it when you run TOO fast or for too long. Basically too high intensity.

You need to ice it and rest it for a few days, longer if painful when walking. Then start back up again SLOW. SHORT distances and SLOW pace. Something easy like a 10-12 minute mile and that is it. Then slowly increase from there. No more then 10% from one run to the next.. some people say 10% a week but that personally is not fast enough if I am trying to train or do a serious cut.

Good luck with it man, its usually managable but many people give up and just write off running because they "get shin splints." When I first started getting it I was pissed. I had gained weight and gotten away from running altogether. I had to start back from square one.

Ive had shin splints before, its not that, this is different, its like you ever been on gear and you get like crazy pumps and feels like your muscles are going to explode. Kinda feels good but it goes away fast. Well this is in the front of my calves where it gets pumped up full of blood and becomes 'too pumped' its just like too much pressure in the muscle area.

Ive been a runner most of my life and was a decathlete in junior college so I know how to train and a triathlete.

Im going to try and run three then up to six miles a day until summer and then go on a training program increasing mileage in a training program. Runner's world magazine always comes out with a different training calendar and stuff for four months before any of the usual marathons in the fall.

Its always a new year's resolution for me though lol. We'll see

Good luck with it, your pain sounds similar to issues I've had to work through. I've come down with nearly every running related injury it seems.

Are you going to run any road races this year? Just strictly 5k or do you do ten k at all?

My goal is to run six 5Ks this year... getting down to 25 mins at least once.. a modest goal I hope.

So the plan is just 5Ks... one year, I started in about January to train for a 5K on the 4th of July. A rematch with old high school distance runners from the track and cross country teams. I killed everyone with a 20:23 or something. But leading up to that I ended up doing a few 10Ks and even the La Jolla half marathon! Ran that in 1:41 and was very pleased.

Thats pretty sweet, Id be happy with that time in a half marathon for sure. Doing a half marathon is much more achievable goal I think, I think that should be my goal actually lol.
Thats alot easier to achieve, Ive ran that distance in training many times, Ive never ran a distance of a full marathon, I want to do that once in my life at least.

You going to run today, any workout planned for the new years day? I didnt party last night so Im fresh and drinking coffee.

Are you two getting a room soon?

j/k lol

Workouts wont change here...I just gonna dedicate myself to eating better, and I think from there...my workouts will produce better results.

my training is focused on gaining and strenght. I want to get back to my core work, Id like to get my squat to 350, my dl to 375, ..... i want to up my weights on my sled drag, atl least double them,...... and then also i want to come in leaner and fuller than last year.

I have alot of work to do, but time and patience is all i can count on.

lmao. i work out harder than most of you fags anyway. who does full squats? oh, that's right, you all have injuries. weaklings. fuck off. pick up some free weights, Casper Milquetoaste.

tell you what? how you answered it incorretly? easy - the question asked what you are training TODAY, hence the thread maker's post about doing shoulders and chest (together?!!!!) TODAY.

as for me, Sunday is a day off. and I gotta work.

Upon further review, I hold BB partially at fault for his very misleading thread title. That being said, each poster will be held liable for not following instructions.

Today is cardio only, probably 15 minutes HIIT on a stair machine and another half an hour steady-state on an elliptical.

Now that most compound movements are old hat for me, this year I am going to include more explosive exercises in my routines. Power Cleans, Clean & Jerk and maybe box jumps and other plyometrics.

lol killah you sound like youre in withdrawal ;)

anyway today i had planned to hit a heavy chest day and use the bench press for a change...becasue im actually stronger with dumbbells than i am with a bloody bar :worried: and since im partly sick of dumbbells plus id like to increase my barbell lifts just so that people will STFU about how much i can bench (since i cant answer them...heaviest ive gone to EVER is 265...while the dumbbells i use weigh that together) but...the gym was shut :( tomorrow, tomorrow

when wrestling season started i got that so bad, it would pump up to like twice the size, and my shins would hurt sooo bad, and i could see it like swelling up, i tmighta been shin splints i dont know, but i just toughed it out and eventually i got used to the pain or it stretched the skin or i dunno, but it still happens but just doesnt hurt as much

Work entailed hanging out in a suite at the Jets game all day, surrounded by $4k worth of good food and drink and chilling with former Jets great, Freeman McNeil

so I can't really complain
