MM- Don't tell Omega but he's half correct. I believe its more of a mom/pop thing. Our parents are almost required to both be working so there is nobody at home most of the time making life simple for when we are all home. Anyway, the yuppy thing we did in the 80's stuck on a base level and we want more for ourselves even if it isn't to look better than others, we just want a better life. Well, the bottom line is the result is less parenting to make our kids more respectful and mannered. We end up less comsiderate and care less. The media helps out by trying to one up each other and it desensitizes our kids as they grow. By the time they reach the teens, they are uneffected by feelings of responsibility and correctness. As if this isn't bad enough, the government has protected us to the level we are more prosperous and have more than any generation before us.
