What's Wrong With Fat Burning Supps

Since everyone constantly asks about fat burning supps on these boards, I thought I would give my opinion of them. In the past, I've used them to speed up my metabolism but haven't used them for fat burning purposes for years. Many do work (ECA, etc) but what do they really allow you to do for the most part - basically they allow you to eat more food.

Why not just cut out the fat burning supps and eat less food - that is, what your body deems to be your natural metabolic rate. One day you are going to have to reduce your food consumption anyway. It might as well be today and you'll have a lot of extra money in your pocket with all the money saved on the fat burning supps.

Also think about all the fat burning supps you used over the years and whether you ever attained the physique you were searching for. My guess would be most have not. :)

I think for most people who take thermogenics, the biggest benefit is decreased hunger, so they eat less, as opposed to taking them solely so they could eat more.

I purely take Thermo's for energy, I dont count them as burning calories, just help me get from Bed to Treadmill, etc. NJ is right that their is no better supplement than diet and exericse, their is no magic pill, even guys on juice have to train hard, and eat good to have a killa body.

Taking supps for appetite suppression purposes is even more insane. Think about it - when will it end - will you take them for the rest of your life? It's inevitable, one day you'll have to control your eating habits so why even bother with supps like this?

I don't use much for fat burning supps except low dose clen, and green tea powder.

Right before a thanksgiving dinner i've been known to slam back a handful of ephedra though.

More then anything, I think their use is to keep energy levels up while dieting.

Fairly good post and topic of discussion. :)

I dunno about the thyroid part. I hope not, but I know I'm being owned coming off of them. After finals I stopped them cold turkey and had random headaches 3 days after (not bad just annoying) and lack the willpower to stay up past 10pm :)

i read that the headaches are caused by brain dehydration....maybe increase h20 intake on those days or since finals are over a couple of that sammy hagar tequilla..

I believe headaches to be cause by low serotonin levels and sleep deprevation.

I have to agree with you NJ, although I think supps are right for some people.

What do you find effective to address the things that people normally seek out of diet supps (decreased appetite, more energy, more fat burn, more focus, etc.) without the use of supps?

Without going into detail, I find an all natural diet works for me - lots of grass or range fed meat, lots of fruits and veggies (mostly raw and organic if possible), and tons of fiber.
