What's the closest you've ever come to dying?

ive had a good couple, but the 2 closest were when racing tuff truck, i was goin balls out, i had a suzuki samuri with a 4 banger, when the others all had V-8's. so anyways, there were 2 hills about 20 feet apart. every other truck hit his breaks before the jumps, because you had a nice strait away to build up speed. well i kept it balls to the fukin wall, caught more air in my sammy then i ever have on my dirt bike, and came down right infront of the next hill, causein my samuri to endo in the air, and land directly on its roof. the roll bar completly callapsed on me, smashing me into the passenger seat, and pining me for 15 minutes. my helmet saved my life there.

also, out in the woods once, a crazy old redneck got pissed we were on his property, and shot his rifle at us from a distance. maybe 10 rounds total, then came down to confront us, put the gun to my neck, and started rambling on about veitnam, and killing guys over there. i wrestled the gun from him when he but it to my head, and my friends ran for cover in the bushes (pussy's), then we hoped in my truck and took off after noticing his inbred family was on there way to back him up.

Food poisoning. I drove myself to the hospital and when I arrived I couldn't speak and could barely stand up. I couldn't even tell them what was wrong. My blood pressure was zero. They couldn't get an IV in me because my veins had collapsed.

I don't know how close I came but hearing the doctor say "no blood pressure" and "veins collapsed" was a bit unsettling.

Driving down from Beech Mtn in NC in late December..

It had Snowed heavy the night before and we thought we would go down the Mtn to the Grocery in Banner Elk. It was like 25 degrees in the morning.

It was early in the morning and they had not yet plowed the roads but it had only snowed 5-6 inches overnight.
We loaded up the whole family in the SUV and started down those steep switchbacks with 100 ft drops on either side and little if any guard rails. We were going alone OK and I was going real slow like 5-10 MPH until we came around a 90 degree switchback and hit a sheet of solid Ice.
I had florida tires on the SUV and we started to slide. I was able to keep the truck in the middle of the road and slide back and forth keeping it from going over the edge. The Ice was so bad that even when I got the vehicle completely stopped it still wanted to slide. I told everyone in back to strap in and we made it about 50 ft down the road to a driveway by basically using a controlled slide, side to side.

I put the chains on and barely made it back up the mountain behind a Plow dumping sand, and we did our shopping at a little place called Fred's general store at the top of the Mtn..

I and the whole family thought we were going over that edge..

Dang peyote I hope you were using a longer stick than the typical short thruster that you use on Galveston waves. Something simular happened to me in Hawaii. Big waves are just massively powerful.

Mine was when I was thrown of the back of a pickup truck with a loaded shotgun. My best friend was driving and hitting on my little sister when I was trying to shoot ducks out of the back of the truck. Last think I remember I was leaning to the left of the truck as he was taking a right hand turn doing about 45mph(trying to catch the duck and my sister at the same time) and then I remembered waking up in the hospitol.

Experienced clinical death and was resuscitated about 20 years ago. (I landed in the hospital with an undiagnosed disease -- tuned out to be the first case of Scarlet Fever seen in an adult in a decade or two.) Had the entire weird near-death experience.

What was the near death experience like?

Curling

Unfortunatly, I was using my 6'8'' thruster. It was either that or a 10' long board. The long board would have been to big to get out there, so I took the shorty. You are right, I just underestimated the true power behind a wave of that size.
Although since then I have baught a Gordan & Smith hybrid board that works well on really big waves, as well as smaller surf. It's 7'6'' and has the hybrid is that off a long board and a gun. It's really bad ass. I should take some pics of my boards and post them some time.

I didn't know peole could really surf out in Galveston.....

Everytime I go out there, I don't ever see waves like I do on TV... guess that shows you what I know.....

On my first Thanksgiving, I was 8 months old, I became very ill with the croop(the cough babies get...sp?)
We were at home, my mom making dinner and I suddenly stopped breathing. I was rushed to the hospital, code blue. I don't remember this of course, but that is my near death experience.

My dad always tells me that he and my brother had a Dr.Pepper and a Snickers bar that day for Thanksgiving dinner, but it was the most thankful dinner he'd ever had...

the waves are not like what you see on TV, but then again nothing is. TV is a fantasy world.

Anyways, yeah there all kinds of waves in G-town, if you ever want to go let me know, I'll show you how to surf

Sounds good! I haven't been to Galveston in months..... but I'll be down there in May for sure...

How dirty is the water nowadays?
