LOL
Its an archtypal, symbolic idea.
Like the antedeluvian symbol that represented hermeticism was the cadueces. MD's use that as a symbol to heal and what they value.
I love the symbol of the psychopomp. Not the wisest, but he's got some skillz and he is just a guide, or messenger, delivering U or a message in time of transition. We are all in transition. Nothing is static. We forget this though, and surface appearance fools U into thinking it is. MuscleMom, knows bout these matters far more than I do. She's much wiser than I am, so that only follows.
Here is a definition she recomended.
Throughout much of human history, such archetypal escorts have been a great comfort to the dying. They confirm that there is some form of existence after the death of the body, and that a compassionate being will be waiting to offer their assistance through the transition. Unfortunately, many of the myths and rituals that once contained images of psychopomps and helped to prepare people for this final rite of passage seem to be largely lost or forgotten in the Western world—a world that is also plagued with fears of dying.
