I take both melatonin and valerian root when I'm having trouble sleeping. I don't like pills that will make me drowsy if I don't sleep long enough. I don't have time to get 8 hours of sleep.

How do you deal with the smell of valerian root? I busted open one of those capsules once and sprinkled it in the hoodie of a co-worker, then put some more in his locker.

lol...it's TERRIBLE. I call them funky feet pills. But I basically just down them as quickly as possible and shake it off.
