Whatman filters?

I am on the verge of filtering some IP oil and I just received my Whatman filters. Are they as easy to use as they appear? I am sure as soon as I get started I will have missed something. Can anyone give me a short synopsis on the filtering procedure. Thanks all.

Fill syringe, attach filter, push fluid through very slowly. If you got the right filter, 20 micron, it will be a complete pain in the ass.

Whatmans are a breeze to use, but you should also bake or boil your gear aswell after filering.
Bake vial at 250 for 20 mins. Or place vial in a saucepan & bring to the boil, your sterile vial should start dancing about when its nearly done.

** Be sure to put a needle in the rubber stopper to allow the vial to vent**
** Be sure the needle is not touching the oil or it will all squirt out**

After all this your gear should be sterile & safe to use.

Thanks for your help guys. I heard about baking the gear. I also heard (mind you this came straight from the mouth of a veteran bodybuilder/former chemistry major) that you shouldn't use a whatman filter on anything greater than 200 mg/ml because it kills some of the potentcy. Has anyone heard this before, or anything like it?

Never heard this before... However you MUST NEVER use a whatman on suspensions such as Winstrol or Test Suspension or you just end up with a vial full of bacteriostatic water & a filter full of gear.

I don't think this is true because after I filtered my winstrol (50mg/ml) it crashed after a few days and all the powder collected at the bottom and along the sides of the vial. This is an indication that the powder did dissolve and make it through the filter though I did heat up the solution, and kept it warm, before filtering. It may be quite a different case with solutions in water. I've never done this but since it is a suspension in the sense that the gear is never dissolved then I would avoid filtering. In fact, I would avoid making any water based gear myself as too much can go wrong.

I suppose it depends on what grade filter you are using & how big the crystals are in the suspension, but I know it has happened to people I have spoke to on other boards who filtered their gear incase pieces of glass had broken off the ampule into the gear & needless to say he wrecked his winstrol.

That would ruin your gear for sure. But if you use oil instead of water and heat to dissolve the powder and keep it warm while you filter so that it remains dissolved then it should be OK.
