Whatever happened to SARS?

What ever the media was led to cover up for the government is most likely over and the bait and switch of what you need to be worried about is over.

Next global epidemic, my ass.

I'm tired of being right sometimes.

seriously, your ass probably is the next global epidemic.

I thought this post was going to be lamenting on how SARS never posts anymore.

SARS could very likely be seasonal.

The coverage of the Iraq conflict once again has taken over the news, with SARS being on the backburner. Also i think they stopped eating the cats in Asia??

Latest threat here in Florida was 2 cases of LOCALLY contracted
Malaria...

Now, as an outdoors type, this concerns me..
I'll have to stock up on the tonic water I guess..

Don't underestimate SARS. I'm working with a group of doctors organizing donations of medical supplies to SARS hospitals in China. The hospitals have a critical shortage of badly needed respiratory equipment, oxygen tanks, etc... It's a bad bad scenario. The doctors I work with come back with stories of kids gasping for air in the hallways of Chinese hospitals because there is no treatment equipment for them.

They knew that SARS would go dormant during the warm months... and public attention would evaporate. The first US SARS benefit concert was put on hold because the doctors knew apathy would set in when the warm months came.

The concern now is: Will SARS be back full swing next winter?

exactly

US = nice place for medicine
europe = nice place for medicine
UK = below-average/3rd world place for medicine

china = screwed.....too many people, too fewer resources. they've had trouble isolating cases of SARS because all the prime candidates migrate around a lot, spreading their germs.....they are really gonna find it hard to get a lid on it. there might never be a cure for it, and a vaccine is quite a way off.

plus its a new type of virus completely. that in itself is just scary. i saw we field test the MOAB on all the people that keep the chickens and pigs in the same house as them

I'm not sure if this part of the story has hit the news yet or not... but the virus has also already split. The Canadian strain is now different from the Chinese strain.

Corona virii mutate really quickly. You think it'll become more benign? I don't think viruses like to kill their hosts as that would hinder their propagation.

yeah, they said they suspected this a while agio, but onthing came in for definate, they suspected this after they saw how virulent the canadian strain was

hell i dont even know if canada got rid of it completely....they had a lot of problems with people breaking quarantine last i heard
