Ok so I started looking for a new job the one I have facking sucks as for mentioned EVERYTHING is monitored it is like a jail. Now I have an oppertunity to get in with a very large company but intally I would be taking a sizeable pay cut. However this company is very large and has what I need to move up the corprate ladder.

So if you were me what would you do?

take the pay cut,not only for the chance for advancement but it seems like you dont enjoy where you are now,and enjoying going to work everyday is very important imo

You would have to weigh in the corporate BS as well as their ability to lay off at any given time...

new job as long as its within 80% of what you make now

The fact that it's large can work against you just as easily. There will be plenty of others in line for advancement ahead of you and you might have some old school manager that values seniority over talent.

Go to the other company., sit quietly, wear low cut shirts. You'll be VP by weeks end.

Well it is unionized so I have to stay at that postion for at least a year before I advance. One the commission starts kicking in my pay will be more in line with what I currently make.

I was told that most of the people that are there a year do successfully move on to hire postions.

It is more important to be happy in life and in what you do, then to be rich. So why not be happy first as you make your way up to where you want to be financially? I say go for the pay cut

Stay with your current job. You most likely don't have what it takes to climb the corporate ladder. You willl end up disillusioned.

move to L.A. and be my booty slave...you will be in shoes for life (but not a damn thing else).

the results are pretty convincing so far

You forgot to list:

#3- Neither! Get out of corporate America and go into business for myself.
Yeah I would love that saddly banks don't want to give me a small business loan for $100 000.

i voted for pay cut, but honestly do what youd be most comfortable doing.

if you honestly think you can work ur way up the ladder and are willing to do what it takes and work hard, then go for it!

-plus ur hot, thats not relevent

I took a sizable paycut from $79K to $45K (which I needed OT to reach) three years ago. I'm still working my way back up but the dotcom days are long gone.

Move to the larger company. Taking a pay cut to get something better in the future seems like a good deal to me.

Well, if I were you I'd move to where I live and get a job here so we can hang out and party!!!

devils advocate...is there any possibilty that this company is being glossed up so they can get new staff and they are actually so large that it takes a whole before promotion?

Does the company you are with offer good prospects for promotion:?

as long as you are prepared for what you just said then go for it..think 5 years down the road rather than how much less you will make this year..

the other factor is happiness..i had a career where ive mad a boatload of money ive also lost a boatload and a half...with money i wasnt any happier, and wheni didnt have money i was miserable because of the stress of trying to make money..bottom line you need to do what makes you happiest

Intelligent post from a pair of huge titties.

I'd stick with the present position and keep looking. A significant pay cut would affect your overall happiness just as much as the stress of working for jerks.

If you can afford to take the paycut (ie can take the new job without going into debt to cover your payments/expenses) then go for it.
