What Was Arnolds Motivation For Bodybuilding?

Well, in pumping iron he states that weight lifting is like cumming to him....so while he is in the gym, it's like he gets the feeling of cumming the whole time....

Shit, that would be motivation enough for me :)

Ya no shit.. :) I guess he just did it, cuz he loved it... and loved the way it made him feel...

his dedication couldnt be much more different than ours. Just like us he started off wanting a better body for whatever reasons. Im sure he didnt start off thinking he was doing it to become rich and famous.

Arnold was a goal setter very early in life... with a lot of ambition. He liked bodybuilding... both for the idea of improving himself and the character aspects of the disipline it required... and he saw it as a vehicle for reaching some pretty lofty goals he set for what he wanted to achieve in his life.

If you ever get a chance to... read the road map of goals he laid out for his life at 20. He met and exceeded some pretty incredible stuff. They also show he had a unique grasp of building for the future... and thinking through the eyes of an older adult.

Arnold is an incredible person. He was far more than a great bodybuilder.

Some said it might have had something to do with getting attention from his dad, his brother was the family favorite supposedly, "Meinhard"? Forget the spelling.

He also was a determined individual, supposedly still gets up at around 5am every morning litterly hopping out of bed. If thats not even true, if anything Arnold is pumped up about life and himself, a true positive thinker.

He told Johnny Carson that he was standing in front of a mirror nude and his legs looked out of proportion; so he decided he needed to build up his legs. :D :D :D

Sofa is the only one who has hit the nail on the head...

Arnold is indeed more than a bodybuilding legend, he is infact a very smart man, with an almost unheard of drive. When he was a young teen he told his parents he wanted to be the best built man in the world. They thought he was crazy, but he did it. He always thought beyond bodybuilding though. He actually made his fortune before the movies. He invested in property. He even bought a huge amount of land in California, thinking they would one day want to buy it off of him to build a futuristic airport. As George already mentioned at 20 he set out a life map. He said he wanted to be a big star, own property, be the best bodybuilder in the world, and get into politics. I am not sure, but I also think he wrote something about wanting to marry a Kennedy. I may be mistaken.

Arnold is a true success story, and a tribute to what will and drive can get you in life.
