Shares of Marvel (MVL) jumped more than 10%, trading lately at to $21.18, while News Corp. (NWS.A) (NWS) ticked up 6 cents to $16.27. News Corp. is the parent of 20th Century Fox, the studio that released "Fantastic Four."

Expected to bring in about $30 million in receipts, "Fantastic Four" instead broke out to a debut of an estimated $56 million from Friday to Sunday. That may have been enough to break the string of 19 straight down weekends when compared with last year's box-office figures.

Does anyone think "The Island" will be decent?

Michael bay is half-retarded, but I think he'll have a tough time screwing up with that cast. I think it will be surprisingly good.

Scarlet Johansonn is a hot bitch....

The action in the film is a true return to form for Bay, who for awhile seemed to be slipping towards the world of annoying, washed out, jumpy editing in the quickly forgotten Bad Boys II. This is the consummate pyrotechnics professional we’re used to, pulling out all his best tricks in a variety of huge, beautifully filmed, high energy sequences. Whatever you think of Michael Bay, when he’s really on his game there’s almost no one better at putting pure, high gloss energy on screen than he is. For a change though, he’s learned to use his fast tempo talents more sparingly, spicing things up with actual dialogue, story, and dare I say it, depth.
