What somatotype are you? Endo, Meso, or Ecto?

What combination of somatotype are you? I would say that I am a endo-mesomorph. I can put large slabs of muscle on easily, but fat will also come quite easilty. Putting on mass for me is much easier than shredding, and shredding usually invloves loosing a bit of muscle in the process. For those of you who are unsure what type you are, here is a brief description and characterization...

Endomorph:
-soft musculature
-rounder face
-short neck
-wide hips
-heavy fat storage

Mesomorph:
-large chest
-long torso
-solid muscle structure
-great strength

Ectomorph:
-short upper body
-long arms
-long legs
-long and narrow feet and hands
-very little fat storage
-narrowness in the chest and shoulders
with genarally long thin muscles.

Mesomorphic people tend to put muscle on the easist of all. I would much rather be an ecto-meso person who tends to stay toward the leaner side. With the use of anabolics and lots of eating it is still possible to put on a good of mass, just harder to keep.

By the way, I am just reading up on this in the arnie bible, and this classification system recognises a total of eighty eight sub-categories. The 3 main categories and level of dominance are based on a scale of 1-7 though.

i.e. If you scored ectomorphic-2, mesomorphic-6, and endomorphic-5, you would be an endo-mesomorph, a well muscled jock type, but inclined to carry a lot of fat. No one is really 1 type but a mix of a few.

i would say im between a mesomorph and an ectomorph, if thats even possible. i have long legs, semi long arms, big back and wide shoulders. good strength for my weight................. :)

Classic ecto-mesomorph - Frank Zane (what a vacuum pose)

what was arnie ? mesomorph/ectomorph ? or was he just a straight mesomorph

Classic endo-mesomorph - Lee Priest. Short thick and stocky.

Dorian Yates - Classic Mesomorph! This solid frame.

Its hard to tell the diff between the pros, because they all get rather ecto looking, but especially with amateurs you can really tell from their frames and builds.

Dorian is one of the largest champions of all time. He ways in at 270 at contest time and gets well over 300 in the off season.

Arnie is mesomorphic enough to put on muscle easiely and bulked up to a solid 240 before, but his body type tends to be leaner which makes him an ecto-mesomorph.

Another classic ecto-mesomorph. Look at how narrow his waist is. I personally think that this is one of the best physics of all time.

ecto-mesomorph

i also agree...one of the best builds of all time

wish bbing would return to that :(

BTw great pic of serge

Ya, I would have to say that the endo-mesos, and pure mesos get the thick monstrous, herculean look, but the ecto-mesos like Serge and Arnie get the bette cuts and definition/sculpting which I personally like better.

Ectos like Shawn Ray and Zane weighing in around 200lbs, who have defeated most massive giants have had to work very hard to get the muscle they have and keep it.

Nice. BTW for those full blown ectos out there that cant seem to put any body mass on for the life of you. The secret is dbol + as much protein as you can stuff in your face.

My best friend was always a super skinny guy, and now has a pretty decent build. He is not a monster by any means, but has a pretty decent build. He had tried a few EQ only cycles, and the only thing that really worked for him was the dbol. Test was good too, but he really noticed the dbol. He dosent ever run a cycle without it. I think from watching him that it is an ectomorphs's "must".

I'm definatley an ecto-mesomorph. I can put on quality muscle with the use of anabolics and massive amnounts of food, but nothing comes easeir to me than cutting for a competition. All I need is 11-12 weeks to bring my bodyfat from 15% to 5%.

Back to Serge Nubret. I recently read in an old musclemag interview that he used to work out for 3 hours a day and therefor never did cardio once in a pre-contest diet. WTF???

He went on to further mention that all the top european bodybuilders were working out for that long back in the day. He swore that this was far more effective at burning bodyfat than long cardio sessions.Interesting to say the least.

Yep....your right on the money mavy. Speaking from a true ectomorph....there is nothing that promotes true anabolism like dianabol.

15%....I can't get above 9% :eek2:

I'm ecto with some meso too...I'm happy with my genetics except by my biceps that don't wanna grow...:(

Term and hairloss guru, you guys SUCK! I would have to put some SERIOUS dedication into getting 5%. I would much rather be an ecto-meso personally.

One of the great things about being a true ectomorph would be that "every cycle would be a bulking cycle!" hehehe

Ecto-Meso
Planning on getting a lot serious about BB when I stop running. Its hard and not good for me to put on too much weight right now. Might be sooner than I think. Look out world here I come.

Oh hell I hate you guys, classic Endo, have to fight for every bit of muscle I gain and gain fat just looking at food, then lost as soon as the diet started

mesomorph

I'd say I'm an endo and (luckily), partly meso. I can add mass fairly easily, but that applies to fat as well due to the consumption of too many carbs, so I really have to keep my diet in check or I get fat and bloated FAST! My wide shoulders and narrowing torso allow for a mesomorphic shape, though I am tall and have slightly long limbs so I don't fill in as easily.

Definately ecto- with a tiny bit of meso.

I have always had a very hard time putting on mass. Got the wide shoulders/narrow waist, long torso and still long limbs. If I ate regularly and didn't train, I'd weigh 155lbs at 6'2" and still be 12-13%bodyfat.

I'll try to attach a pic. It's a little old and black and white, (looks like it's from the 1880s) but gives a general idea. I'm about half way to where I want to be muscle wise. Started at around 150lbs. three years ago, now 193 and want to get up to 215 solid or 225lbs.

Thanks man, much appreciated.

I'm one of those small boned guys that looks better standing alone than next to a thicker guy. I worked out yesterday with a buddy who is entering the NPC Mr. Iowa competition in a few months. He only weighs 215 at about the same height as me, but is much much thicker. I felt like a peanut next to this guy, and the difference is like 20lbs? But, when he is standing alone, he looks smaller than me because of his narrow build. He's got to be one of the few builders you'll see that look massive from the side and smaller when you look at them straight on. I guess everybody's different in some way.
