What separates a winner from a loser?

Fonz

I've been thinking about this.

What really does? Education? Looks? Money?

Some succesful people don't even have
a high school diploma to their names. Looks? They might give you a small advantage in the game to be succesful but it normally doesn't make you a winner. Money? Nope.
A lot of people with money aren't respected.

The only thing that "gives" you the capability to be a winner is hard work. Thats it. Nothing else comes close to it.

I was just looking at my projected class schedule:

24hrs/week+labs(2-3years)(I can do it in 2 if I go study crazy)

TEA(4hrs/week)+3-4 Years Ph.D/Masters dissertation

Oh shit....

Then there's the stupid accounting BS thing I have to qualify fir.

I think people get confused in life and end up unsatisfied because they forget one major detail.

They forget that the journey is most of the fun.

Sometimes tunnel vision kicks in and you forget that some of the best times are those on the way to your goal.

Example in the gym: people are so focused on benching 315 that each week that they improve is almost forgotten and therefore, when the goal is reached, it is anti-climactic.

Do me a favor, and quote that and put it in your signature. It'll be good, trust me.

Why?

I'll go insane by Day 5.

that's so true.

some people focus entirely on the orgasm and totally overlook the weeks of stalking, the chloroform, the duct tape, the bleaching process, hanging yourself up by hooks, etc etc.

it is all about the process that gets you there, not just the end results.

also, I enjoy ham.

I can't help but notice that you have chosen to ignore the part of my original post wherein I said, "trust me." I don't care for your attitude frankly. Is it just me or can anyone else hear clocks ticking like all the time, even when there aren't any around?

I still don't get it Nathan, not that I ever do so........whatever you meant.

the will to prepare to win

State of mind can be a factor in making someone a winner or loser as well. You simply have to have a frame of mind that is dedicated to accomplishing goals or you will never be able to succeed.

Everything comes from within...

I take a different view Fonz, one that's not measured by tangibles such as diploma's, money, looks etc.

A winner is someone who enjoys life and everything it has to offer.

There are plenty of people who 'work' hard Fonz, but yet don't enjoy life.

IN A RACE, A VARIOUS AMOUNT OF DISTANCE SEPERATES A WINNER FROM A LOSER.

IN A GAME, USUALLY SOME POINTS SEPERATE THE TWO.

IN A TYPE OF CONTEST, SAY UHH A SPELLING BEE, THE WINNER AND LOSER IS SEPERATED BY WHOEVER MAKES MISTAKES FIRST.

I COULD GO ON AND ON.

IMO...the true measure of a winner is how they handle adversity. Anyone can be a winner when everything is going well. You find out what someone is made of when things aren't going their way.

In the end it's all about HEART

Not even close.

Being a winner or being a loser is a matter of individual perspective.

Just like you said. Education? Many of the wealthiest men alive are not "educated" by current standards (i.e. college degrees). Money? Just because one isn't the wealthiest man alive doesn't mean he is a loser. Looks? Many ugly winners.

The list goes on and on.

What TRULY makes an individual a winner?

My personal meaning of life: happiness.

Someone can be the poorest, ugliest, dumbest, etc'ist human being who is completely satisfied with his life and be a WINNER while a filthy rich, physically godlike genius who can't go a day without wishing he were dead is a complete LOSER.

That's it man - happiness.

Code:
If (you're happy by your own standards)
{
         you're a winner.
}
else
{
         loooooooooooooooooser.
}

Hard work huh? I think crack heads and herion addicts work harder than anyone to get a fix. and in my book these people are losers.

A winner is someone that can reach the top with what they do and never show it in a vulgor manner.

a winner is simply someone who sets a goal for themselves and reaches the goal. if you reach your goal you have created success. if you fall short of your goal you have lost.

Thats quite right.

Finding the right mix of all the aforementioned variables
is what life is all about I guess if you're happy .

(1) mental toughness
(2) perseverance
(3) ability to understand pain and injury
(4) will to never finish any less than first

That is what is was for me. That is what it always will be!

That sucks.

I hate condensers. My friend is a condenser, a really awful one.

if (condition1) { doThis(); } else if (condition2) { doThat(); } else { whee();}

Then I have this other friend who has those fucking hanging curlies.

int main() {
blalbhablhahlb
}

if (condition) {
do stuff
}

wtf is that! Hit enter before the curlies asshole!

At least it's not as bad as those people who take 3 lines of code and turn it into a fucking function so that the code is unreadable as hell and you have to scroll around the entire program just to find out what miscellaneousHelperFunction#10() does.

Good question. I always thought "the hard worker is the most successful".

But after reading "THINK AND GROW RICH" (the BIBLE everyone should have) i found that is NOT true.

It is DESIRE through KNOWLEDGE through CREATIVITY through MOTIVATION that makes someone successful.

For example : an Author sells a book. It really doesn't do too well. Even though he put sooo much HARD WORK into it. Then one day he gets an idea. He CHANGES the title to something more attractive. BOOM! Sales takes off, and now he's successful.

Was it HARD WORK in getting those extra sales and now being successful? Nope. It was his BRAINPOWER that lead to it.

For years we've beent old "work your ass off and you'll be successful". That is not entirely true. Most of the people in your average company has the HARDEST WORKING people at the bottom of the ladder. Making the littlest of money. Yet the big cats at the top are making the most amount of money. Why is that?

Because the BIG CATS were the ones with the DESIRE and the OBSESSION to carry an idea and BUILD a company. They TOOK the risk. When they didn't have the knowledge or time to carry out the hard work in running the company, they HIRED people who WILL work hard for simple money to make it happen. So THEIR knowledge of how the system works, their DRIVE to see it happen, and their CREATIVITY in knowing how to distribute work and tasks got them to where they are now.

Read that book and it'll describe it in FULL detail what makes people successful.

BUT COMMON misconception people make is they ASSOCIATE someone WORKING HARD with OBSESSION. Yes an Entrpreneur working HARD and gets successful is NOT the same as a accountant working HARD and not getting successful. Two different things. The entrepreneur used his mind to create a PLAN whereby to get SUCCESSFUL and MOTIVATED into an OBSESSSION to carry out this plan by ANY MEANS NECESSARY.

You were only seeing the PHYSICAL part of his manifest. Which is not the entire scope of what he's doing.

"Think and Grow rich"

Sounds like an interesting read as far as different angles go.

Who's the author/publisher?

Napoleon Hill. Written in 1937. Available on amazon, etc. Read the reviews there. Probably one of the GREATEST books ever written this century. It's based on 30 years of research on Ford, Carnegie, and many other self-made billionaires and what made them different from every other normal man in that era.

Cool. Thanks.

Thank god its available online or esle I'd have to go troll through
the libraries here in DC......... :)
