What Professional Bodybuilder Have You Met?

Mike Morrison and Lee Priest at local bb shows where they guess posed. Ronnie Coleman when the Pro source store opened here in Toms River in Jersey. No story to tell. Not like I hung out with them or anything. ;)

1. Mike Matarazzo: VERY cool guy, outgoing, friendly, more than willing to talk. I have seen him at various shows.

2. Shawn Ray: DICK! Met him once at the OC Muscle Classic several years ago and he was too busy to say shit to anyone other than Dillet and other pros. Saw him again at a gas station in Fullerton, CA, asked if I could take a picture and he said no. Dude was pumping gas with an auto hose. He was just standing there. Drove a white Lotus, good for him.

3. Vic Richards: Pretty cool, kind of introverted, but not an asshole if approached. Still the biggest guy I have ever seen. What happened to him? He disappeared.

I spoke with Ronnie for 5-10min and asked him to critique a friend of mine when he was onstage competing in the Ironman contest. My friend was pretty stoked. "Ronnie Coleman says I need better lower back definition?? YESSS!!". It was funny.

Other than that I've seen a few at local gyms; Dorian, Greg Kovacs (loser) , Lee Labrada, Lee Priest, etc, etc.

Pro bodybuilders are always visiting nutrition stores in my area. Whenever I hear about one coming up here I like to go and see them. I've met Nasser, Priest, and Dillet this way. Mike Matarazo is the owner of the gym I used to go to, so I used to see him all the time. I've also met Yates and Coleman when they have guessed posed at bodybuilding shows in my area.

They all seemed like nice guys, and didn't mind getting their pictures taken with me. But of course they would act nice since they are doing this for publicity. The only guy that seemd a bit grumpy was Dillet. He was pissed that the owner of the store forgot to get him photos for him to sign for the fans. He also talked some shit about Levrone when I asked him about all the top guys chances at that years Mr. O. This was the year that Yates had retired if I remember correctly.

1. Ronnie Coleman....not much to say about him, I just got and autograph/picture and left

2. Markus Ruhl....He's been like my idol ever since I got into bodybuilding....I got to talk to him for 5-10 min or so at the Ronnie Coleman classic last year....he's a really nice guy!!!

I've met a lot, they were all nice guys. The only one I had a problem with, I unfortunately had to deal with on a daily basis. I won't say his name, but he's shorter than Priest and is Italian. I'll just say, we didn't get along very well.

kovacs(very nice), matarazzo, cutler(snobby), shawn ray(nice), preist, Vince taylor(nice guy), lou(deaf didn't say much), bill kazmier(strongman, super cool), but out of all, my favs were dorian yates and nasser. Nasses talked to me for like 10 mins while there was a huge line building behind me for auto's. Yates was very down to earth and soft spoken.

I met most of them at last years olympia, and the rest at local shows(guest posing)

Aaron Maddron, he's a loser. Seriously. He seems really nice at first glance but it's all a show. The guy's life is now in shambles.

I met Flex Wheeler at a local nutrition store. I didn't talk to him much but he seemed like a pretty cool guy. He was real nice to the people asking him for autographs. Lee Labrada used to work out at my gym about 3 years ago, but I haven't seen him since. Oh, and I don't know if this counts, but Monica Brant was at the same store that Flex was at too!

I met Arnold, who was wearing a well-tailored suit, in December 1988, at the offices of the Bush-Quayle Transition Team in Washington, DC, where I was on special assignment and working for George Bush Jr., who headed the team.

He was visiting our offices and shaking hands, doing the political thing, because he was campaigning to be President Bush Sr's - sheesh I cannot exactly recall (Chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness?).

Not a "large" man, as many of you know. But with definite charisma, without a doubt. A definite "presence." It was an enjoyable "howdy" and handshake. Kind of person I wished I could just have gone downstairs to the coffeeshop and chatted. Yes, that approachable. And, of course, no bodyguards. Secret Service everywhere. He was pretty much just roaming the halls with a political hack and meeting people.

Other pro's I've not met. I think I would have enjoyed meeting Charles Atlas, even when he was very old.

Used to do alot of fitness/bodybuilding modeling so I met alot.

Ronnie Coleman - at the Night of Champions. Had dinner with him, Chris Cormier and about 20 others, nicest guy I have evr met.

Cormier- Very Funny.

Flex Wheeler- At the same dinner with Ronnie back in 98' , I think. Nice guy, but very aware of his status at that time. Kept to himself and his wife.

Arnold- at the Arnold Classic, years back. Alot shorter than I thought. I shook his hand, he was very lite. Had about 30 bodyguards around him that swept him away after our encounter.

Mike OHearn- grew up with the guy in Seattle.

Vic Richards- Seattle guy as well, nice , but too huge. Never competed. Has a small mans complex on stage, i hear, but how could anyone that size think they are small.

Aaron Maddron- met him at the Emerald Cup in Seattle. He was nice, polite, but I was with mutual friends of his.

Zuccolotto- Total party guy. Loves the women, although he never messed around, while my buddy and him went out in Huntington Beach. Was married and loyal

Cutler- Met him at the USA whgen Tom Prince won. He seemed nice, alot smaller then.

Shawn Ray- no comment

Vince Taylor- My all time favorite! He is the man, and a gentelman as well.

Jim Quinn- met him after he retired the first time at dinner in NYC. He was a normal looking guy, kind of strange.

Mike Quinn- in NYC as well. Nice, but quiter than I thought.

Aaron Baker- was verypre-occupied when I met him, maybe all the fitness girls in the lobby of the hotel. Yeah that's it.

Mike Christian- met him about 10 years ago in LA. Nicest most accomidating guy. Was friendly to everyone.

Gunther- Did some photo shoots with him, before he spoke alot of english, always was smiling, just like today.

Nasser- Met him in Columbus. Nice guy. Seemed to tell you anything you wanted to know about anything. Drugs included.

Frank Sepe- The guy gets a bad rap for being stuck up, but he is a great guy! I did alot of things with him in NYC and he is a great guy.

Christian Boeving- Did things with him as well. Nice guy, although alot seems to have gone to his head lately.

That's my list for now. Just FYI.

Macster, that's an impressive list.

What I really liked, though, were your personal impressions of them.

Dexter

I've met..

Flex Wheeler..great guy and very easy to talk too. Very laid back.

Lee priest..very funny and very cool.

Mike Matarazzo..Pretty cool and polite.

Vince Taylor..very cool guy and very nice and down to earth.

Jay Cutler..He must have been in a bad mood cause he was a bit of a prick.

Kevin Levrone..A total dick. i asked him for advice on my pec tear as he had one back in '93 and he barely said 2 words. Once again a total dick.

There are some more but those are the ones that stand out..

Maybe I'll get lucky and catch one on clomid... he'll take me under his wing and show me the ways!

ronnie colman- at local gym it was off season and he was a guest at a local show. He was actually bigger than I thought he would be. He was also ignorant and slow! Also like above, Bill kazmier- a buddy of mine used to work out with him occasionally at the gym that Kaz owned-he has to be the strongest s.o.b on the plannet!

I love this thread.

Psychologically (and personally), it is interesting how the different pros are considered by those who have met them...and what they probably are in real life.

Macster, besides yourself, has anybody met Nassar? From the way your describe him, this man has his sh*t together. An accomplished pro...and a decent person who knows who he is and what he expects in this life.

Okay. Maybe a fanatic? But accomplished. And did he step over any dead bodies to get to his level of achievement?

Dexter

Met King Kamali at a local show here. He was guest posing and it was off season for him, he was around 275-280 lbs. Short guy but much bigger than I ever imagined in person. I can't imagine what a Ronnie C. or Jay Cutler looks like in the off season.

Living here in southern Cali you get to see a lot of these guys all over the place especially in the clubs.

I've met and partied numerous times with Chris Cormier. He's a real cool guy and a totall party aniaml. Partied with Jay Cutler in Orange county a couple of years ago. He's real nice guy and fucken HUGE! Met Dorian Yates and Milos Sarcev in Vegas this past year at Mr. USA (met them at Drais in L.V). Flex Wheller at Gold's Gym in Venice, along with Ronnie Coleman and Lee Priest.

"I've met a lot, they were all nice guys. The only one I had a problem with, I unfortunately had to deal with on a daily basis. I won't say his name, but he's shorter than Priest and is Italian. I'll just say, we didn't get along very well."

Joe Pesci is not a bodybuilder. He just uses halo whenever he is training to beat down a guy with a telephone, slam his head in a car door and then put his head on a curb and stomp his teeth out.

Oh, I met Magnus Ver Magnusson. he is really cool and took time to anwer alot of questions. he is also pretty funny. he was tall but bit smaller than i'd expected. there were a bunch of local bodybuilders there, and magnus was laughing because all of them were standing next to him and puffing out their chests to show that they were thicker than him.

As for certain pros being pricks because they don't talk alot, you have to realize that maybe they just don't talk alot.

Shook hands with Arnold in the Santa Monica Mall,Christmas 98'.No bodyguards and was surprised how nobody seemed to make a big deal about his presence. He was with a young child and a woman (not Maria) and they were getting christmas pictures in one of those setups in the middle of the mall. You would think a super celebrity muti-millionaire would choose some place different.I saw one guy ask if he could take a picture and Arnold said no.So I walked up to him and sad "Uh...I dont want to take your picture or anything,I just wanted to shake your hand".He put out his hand and said "How you dooing" like the Terminator. It was pretty cool. He had a scruffy beard and was kinda hunched over and wearing this old granpa button up sweater, still a big framed man though to me(im 5'9).Impressive man with lots of charisma even when hes tired looking.

Met Magnus Ver Magnusson .He works as a bouncer part-time in a titty bar called Goldfinger in Kopavor,Iceland.Real nice guy.As impressive to me as Arnold.Suprisingly smaller than I expected for being aguably the greatest strongman ever.Looked about 6'2 240.Okay I know thats not small by anyones standard but I expected someone Shaq sized. He is by far my favorite strength athlete. Some people in Iceland think John Paul Sigmundson was greater though.

In 1998 Jean-Pierre Fux. he was very nice (well heard from others he turned into a dick). i could only guess his blood pressure, but
it seemed around 200/100. when he moved 3 steps, he sweated
more than i did in the australian dessert, lol.

This is indeed a cool thread, here's my contribution:

1) Chris Cormier: laid back as hell.
2) Nasser: Great guy, took a picture with him and he took the
time to talk and socialize...
3) Tom Prince, Frank Sepe, Milos Sarcev, the Met-Rx guys ...
Prince is the man, and Sepe was okay.
4) Eddie Robinson: he is an old favorite of mine and he was
a funny funny guy when I met him.
5) Vince Taylor: caught him while he was rushing off somewhere,
but he was cordial enough to get a quick photo with me, I
thought that was pretty cool.

There are more, but I can't remember them right now. There
weren't too many bad experiences with pros, they are generally
decent folk who'll be cool if you avoid the "what do you do for
biceps?" questions...

At MuscleMag in Long Island this past week:

Jay Cutler - nice down to earth guy, kept luvs and bicepflexed talking forever

Frank Zeppie (not sure on the spelling) - seemed soooo arrogant!!!

Some of the fitness Chicks - who quite frankly came off like bitches.

I was a guest poser at the 2001 Natural Eastern Classic in Virginia. Flex Wheeler was the main guest poser... We sat with each other in the audience. Very nice guy.

Worked at the same club as Don Long. Talk to Kevin Leverone when I see him, King Kamali is my friends trainer. Yonnie Shambourger, Ivory Turner III.....

At the shows I've met pretty much everyone else, but not on a personal basis.

I saw alot of them out clubbin' after a big competition last year. I can't remember exactly who as my brain was fried at the time (my friends told me who we'd seen the next day, but for some reason my short term memory was shot and I forgot). Then only one I really remember was King Kamali, who was still going strong as I was crashing back down to earth. That guy was a real character.

I've met a lot of them at the Arnold Expo the last couple of years. I also got to see Ronnie guest post at a show in Columbus, Ohio last year. I didn't get to know any of these guys personally though, just kind of said what's up. I got to chat with Aaron Maddron for awhile and he's a very cool guy. I also ran into my personal favorite Kevin Levrone at his hotel and got to bullshit with him for awhile. He's also a very down to earth and nice guy. I hope he can get his stuff back together because when he's on target he's awesome.

Cutler- pretty cool guy..laid back....HUGE!!!!!! I met him in April '02

Stan "Curly Top" McCrary- pretty nice...didn't talk to him much... I was too busy freakin out over Cutler

Stan "Curly Top" McCrary-You can't understand a word coming out of his mouth but he's a pretty funny guy. I've seen this guy try to pick up women and he has NO GAME whatsoever. Pretty pathetic!!!

Arnold --met him at the first Arnold classic (1989). Back then he was a lot easier to get close to him and talk to him. Spoke with him briefly about the show, got a photo and shook hands. Was prob about 210lbs at that time.

Shawn Ray --very egotistical--Talked about himself the whole time--lol Talked a lot a shit about the other competitors.

Jay Cutler -- Nice guy, seemed very down to earth.

Vince Taylor --Nice guy, humble, humorous.

Bob Paris --great physique, modest guy--he should've won the first Arnold classic!

Lee Haney --Gave God all the credit, nice guy.

Flex Wheeler --Just found God at the time I met him. Seemed friendly and easygoing.

Greg Kovacs --kinda grumpy. Prob pissed that MuscleTech let him go .

Milos Sarcev --Nice guy, horny--he seemed more interested in the girls that were walking by than talking with his fans

Chris Cormier --funny guy

Ronnie Coleman --laid back, easy to talk to.

***there's more, but those are the ones that stick out in my mind right now.

Met Jay Cutler last week at an appearance, he was real cool took some pics and we were expressing our upsetness about him getting rippd off at the 2002 olympia....

workout at the same gym as frank sepe, never really spoke to him though, seems pretty cool though

also Bev francis owns my gym, she is real nice

took pictures with dennis james last year at Night of the Champions, cool guy..

anyone going to NOC this year??

peace

Lee Priest- Met him at the Arnold Classic for the past 3 years.

Paul Dillet- very cool guy

Dorian Yates- very cool, was a little preoccupied at the time, so
he didn't talk much.

Shawn Ray- he's cool, but more interested in money I think.

Mike Francois- met him in the airport a few years ago, now he's
my trainer. VERY COOL GUY!!!

Craig Titus- asshole- he was busy talking to his buddy, and not
at all concerned that a fan was waiting to
talk to him.

yeh, I met Craig Titus too, in Las Vegas. He was mad doggin me because his chick was all on my jock! I heard he just got busted recently, AGAIN!

I met:

Paul Dillet- pretty cool guy
Shawn Ray- likewise
Lee Priest- I was leaving the pisser, he was coming in. We had to do the sideways turn to get by each other. It was in a tight hallway.

I met greg kovacs hes just bulk no definition or anything. He's nice i guess but i just dont like him due to the muscletech ads

Just met Nasser a few weeks ago and he was more than willing to chat about all the necessities; he also told me some of weaknesses. Also, to the urge - when did you work out with Kaz, was it before or after him getting chewed up and spit out by Sue - j/k, hit me with a PM when you get a chance, I know him very well too.

Met Melvin Anthony a year or so back on Bourbon street, New Orleans. He stopped to take a picture with me, answered all my questions, and even asked where we were headed during the night and told us we could party with him, definitely has my respect.

Maybe he did mean NOC, this thread is about three months old or so. Now that it's back up, anyone else have any stories about meeting pro's? I like the Arnold ones.

1> Mike Ashley - I work out at his gym in Fla. - incredibly cool guy - one of the greatest natural BB's of all time.

2) Laura Cravalle - hire her to try and tech my wife how to cook - nice girl - poor use of funds.

3) Markus Ruhl - player blackjack with him at Mandalay after the 2000 Olympia. He didn't speak a word of English and lost about $700 in an hour. I would love to get him in a poker game.

4) Mike Matarrazzo - used to work out at my gym - says fuck every fourth or fifth word.

Lee Haney - Genuine, down to earth. Nice guy.

Dorian - He is a great person. Friendly, also down to earth.

Shawn Ray - I know alot of people say he is an asshole, but I met him this past month is he was nice to me and my wife and had a good sense of humor. Maybe I caught him on a good day.

Stan "Curly Top" Mcary - Yeah he can't speak worth a damn and is basically a dork, but he is funny as hell.

I go to Kevin Levrone's gym to see a sports nutritionist and Kevin is usually there, always very nice. Met Dorian before his last Olympia at the Mr.Maryland show, he was huge. Magazines don't do these people justice size wise seeing them in person is almost mind blowing.

PROS

MIKE MATARAZZO:VERY NICE GUY FLEX WHEELER:COOL POSITITVE ATTITUDE GUY LEE PRIEST:VERY NICE FORWARD GUY KING KAMALI:NICE GUY VERY OPEN AND UP FRONT WITH YOU ACHEIM ALBREICHT:MET HIM YEARS AGO NASSER ELSONBATY:VERY QUIET LAID BACK MIKE FRANCOIS:VERY POLITE AND A NICE GUY SHAWN RAY:HE WAS AN ASS VERY RUDE GUY STAN MCRARY:HE WAS COOL QUINCY ROBERTS:OWNS A GYM WERE I MOVED FROM VERY NICE GUY HES A IFBB MASTERS COMPETITOR

I met Chris Cormier at Sound Factory about three years ago. All I can say is the boy likes his chemistry set and I am not talking about juice

well i have seen gunter, cormier, coleman, titus, cutler, matterazo, and prince all guest pose. but i actually talked to prince and cutler for a while...those two are very nice guys.

Dennis James.

I am good friends with a friend of DJ. So when they came to the NOC in NY I got to meet him, as well as hang out with him the whole weekend. I have to say he a very nice guy willing to do any request a fan may have for him.

Flex wheeler-Nice guy he is huge. I never realized how jacked those guys are until I stood next to one of them and felt like a 5 year old.

I will not start a list of all the pros i met, instead i will say i have had the opportunity and pleasure to dine, party and train with several of the top iffbb guys.

Seperate the pros from their element of the gym, store, show or seminar then you can really see what they are all about. Afterall these guys are just like you and me deep down, train eat and want ot grwo. The only thing that seperates us is a massive genetic abilty.

Mostly these guys all want to be treated just like you and me (normal)....the pros that seem pissed off all the time are probaly the ones who can not handle being asked the same question day in and day out month in and month out. The guys who seem pleasant all the time have learned to handle and accept that the questions and photos are part of thier job....those are generally the ones who excel with the fans.

Just my two cents on the subject.

I have to agree with Flexbailey about Kevin Levrone being a dick. I saw him twice at the same pro show in different years. The first time he signed for me but didnt say a word and just looked miserable. The second time he gave my pal some bullshit about why he couldnt sign a pic to his girlfriend. He was quite willing to chat and be friendly with other black guys but not so friendly with a couple of white fellas - just calling it as i observed it. I think he puts on a good show when he needs to but really just a miserable asshole when it comes down to it. Its funny how some of these pros act like this - I mean lets get real. No one outside of the tiny cult of bodybuilding knows who the hell they are - they are completetly irrelevant in the wider sporting world (if u can call BB a sport) yet they act like they think they are as big as Tiger Woods or Pete Sampras. Wise up you mudsuckers! ;-)

Well,i know Dennis James real well, worked the both with him at the Aronld and helped at the NOC.Thru him i met Dorrin Yates,Dexter Jackson,Carrot Top,Flex wheeler,it was cool we all went out to eat 3 times, have some great pics, and a good party, hahaha, skip

The only guy I met was Orville Burke. He was definately a freak. His rear delts are more than incredible. He was very nice and just can't stop smilin for some reason

Frank Sepe- Total stuck up asshole (Musclemag Long island)

Jay Cutler- was trying to hard to be friendly; a little anti-social (muscle mag long island)

cormier- Was absolutlely friendly but training someone in Venace at time so Conversation was short (Venice California)

Prince- Was absolutley friendly and had a nice conversation with him, very giving for advice but not to pro about discussing his drug habbits. (Venice California)

Mike Matteranzo- Very Huge calves!!! thats all I had to say to him, met him after knight of champions. (New York, NY)

Something Quinn- very huge for retired body builder and met him in the airport in Turks and Caicos. We talked for quite a while and he was very advicefull towards training, diet and open about juice. His black girlfriend was a bitch though and getting jealous for some odd reason.

I met Jay Cutler at a show he was guest posing for. He asked me how old I was. I said 21. He pointed to a picture of himself when he was 22 and enormous and said "catch up." :(

I met Dennis James

He was buying pirate porno DVD's in a local store, I happened to have been buying roids at the pharmacy earlier that day and still had them with me I asked him to autograph a box of 20 TV250 amps as a gift for a friend, he refused of course but was quite friendly and polite about it.

Only one I have ever met was Art Atwell. Okay I have very wide shoulders... but his chest almost as deep as my shoulders are wide!!
Damn I can't imagine seeing some of these other guys!!!
We is the only IFBB to come out of WI...oh well...only 100 more lbs and I can do it.

I have met pretty much all of them and there is no story to tell. They are just guys with more muscle than you and I have, and many of them are very messed up people who lead less than noble life styles.

I'm with Will on this one. There will always be assholes in any walk of life and BB isn't any different. I will add this; there is a definite difference between the old timers and the new guys. It could be the perspective of age but even when they were young dudes, guys like Draper and Scott were real gentleman and extremely humble about what they did. It probably comes from the fact that bodybuilders were "outsiders" back then and today some of them think they're superstars.

I should also say that even the bodybuilders I know who are degenerate pricks are alter boys compared to the owners of most supplement companies.

Only one i have ever met is kevin lervone. He is very down to earth. Most people in the gym say the same thing about him.

I went to the 94 and 95 Olympias in Atlanta, so I got to meet quite a few. The ones that stood out were: Paul Dillett, because he was an asshole; Vince Taylor, because he was so nice; Dorian, because he was so thick; and Victor Richards, because he had nothing to say when I called him out on that 20,000 calories a day bullshit he was spouting at that time.

Victor Richards never said he ate 20,000 cal a day. That was a myth that was started by a mag. Richards says he eats around 7000-8000 calories a day and I believe him.

I met Tom Platz and Danny Padilla about 10 years ago when they were promoting IcoPro and they were both very friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to help me with training advice and everything.

King Kamali, Lee Priest and Jack Lalanne - the Godfather of modern fitness equipment.

Kamali and Priest were at 2002 Emerald Cup doing the schmooze thing, so we sidled up talked for a few minutes, had the obligatory pics taken and moved on.

Jack I met on a plane ride at the ripe age of 86. Remember he still does strength and endurance feats even at his age (i.e. towing 72 barges across the bay for his 72nd birthday, etc). We talked for the 40 minute ride and I came away with some of the best advice in my life in two quotes from him (remember he's still big, muscular and tough even at his age).

They were:

Fitness is King
Solid Nutrition is Queen
Without both, your kingdom will fall.

2) If man made it - don't eat it.

With few exceptions since I started training 2 years later (this was 5 years ago), my regular diet is all natural - sans preservatives, etc.

Bo

Met Ronnie, King Kamali, Jay Cutler and Greg Kovacs when guest posing at a local show. Ronnie was a hell of a nice guy

(Kovacs is the biggest fucker I have ever seen in my entire life!!!!)

I met Jay Cutler, King Kamali, Rachel Moore and another fitness model I can't remember her name. They were guest at a local show but were signing pictures at a supplement store. Every one of them were very friendly. I brought both of my children who are fans to meet them. Jay was espically friendly to my son and daughter. They were selling autograph pictures but instead he let them pick there favorite and gave them as a gift. He took a couple of pictures with my son doing a bicep pose and my sons commment was mom he has steel in his arms :FRlol: The guy is huge. King Kamali was an excellent guest poser, the best I have ever seen. And even the fitness models were very friendly. It was a very good experience.

Saw Chris Cormier at SF in NYC a few times.............he was preoccupied but seemed to be quite enjoying himself.

Met Rob Lopez at Temptations and Metro (both clubs in NJ) nice guy, but my friend sees him all the time at Strong and Shapely Gym where he lifts.

Ran into Jason Arntz at Surf Club at the Jersey shore.
