What martial art would you recommend for discipline?

so saint you're not gonna do the grappling/submission shit anymore?

not to the same extent... i am an old man compared to most and the joints can only take so much, basically i realized i was not good enough to go further in it so i decided to look around and find something to incorporate into my lifestyle rather than just training sessions of getting my ass beat.

that sucks. I'm about your age and I want to get into BJJ. I took some TKD a while back, but I lost interest because I found it to be not practical.

US Marines or US Army will do the trick, too. Knowing you need improvement is the first step. Good luck whichever way you go.

I have trained in several different styles. Find one with an instructor that YOU like.

I taught for 7 years and all of my students called me by my first name, we laughed, had fun, joked a lot...and always learned. My students also stayed out of trouble. Since I stopped teaching...2 of my students have been in and out of trouble (legally, drugs, etc..). I remember seeing one of their parents out and them telling me that they wished I would teach again...that it kept their kids out of trouble.

the thought of you knowing Karate is very frightening.

Read "Aikido and the dynamic Sphere"
Check it out at the Lib..
See if this style of using your apponents force against them by re-directing and taking them down interests you.

I wanted a strictly defensive style and the redirecting punches and your apponent as he runs at you is the most practical for street fighting. If the person does NOT over commit themselves, this style is not as effective.

You will learn how to fall first because you will used as a practice attacker / piece of meat.

The style is also very into using the body's Chi ...
