What martial art would you recommend for discipline?

I need something to help with my self disicipline... i don't mean stuff like working out and diet... i mean more of my internal struggle to do the things i need to do in life. Also the expended energy would be a great benefit.

I'm looking at kung fu right now. I have a friend who takes it and he seems more peaceful than most people i know.

you'll find that a lot of styles of kung fu (if theyre good)incorporate their grappling, joint locking and other nasty kill move stuff into their tai chi which they offer

it REALLY depends on the sifu you have on whther you will be more peaceful as a result of your training. scout about a bit :)....a lot of these 'so called' kung fu masters or instructors are dudes who went and trained for like a few years and decided to ecome a master of some oriental sounding art they made up

the less agressive animal styles (like say crane as opposed to a big nasty animal like bear or tiger) TEND to be more proportinal in their force so they will advocate making your opponenet submit and only killing/maiming when necessary, whereas the bigger animals might advocate annihilating the fuck outta him :D thats a generalisation though, every style is different and some incorporate more than one animal

tai chi WILL relax you, but on its own isnt that practical for fighting. its also frustrating to learn but thats where all the discipline malarky comes in. that and kung fu mightb worth your while. just pop along to your local dojo or whatever and see whats on offer :)

shotokan karate is one of the most discipline schools I know of, but it mostly depends on the teaher as danielson said....

I have trained in several different styles. Find one with an instructor that YOU like.

I taught for 7 years and all of my students called me by my first name, we laughed, had fun, joked a lot...and always learned. My students also stayed out of trouble. Since I stopped teaching...2 of my students have been in and out of trouble (legally, drugs, etc..). I remember seeing one of their parents out and them telling me that they wished I would teach again...that it kept their kids out of trouble.
