What makes you fat? Carbs or Fat?

So Tat, last week I decided to use whole milk on oats instead of skim, as one of many ways of boosting my cals. I've been playing heaps of squash (like 1.5 hrs per day on top of weights) lately and have found that I just can't eat enough, and seem to be waking up all night and binging on food. This isn't effect my bf, so it's just showing I'm not eating enough during the day.

I'm assuming then on 1/2 arsed bulking (I refer to my bulking as this, as I'm doing to much cardio sports for it to really happen quickly), whole milk (fat) and carbs is fine? To make getting the cals easier, I was thinking of adding fat to each meal but PWO, although I've read studies suggesting whole milk is awesome PWO too

I grow like crazy on milk.

There was an article in MD a few months ago about how it triggers IGF-1.

How nice that you found out you were not eating enough. I started counting my calories etc again, and found out I was eating TOO MUCH :mix:

1800 kcals is really not a lot of food, bloody hell, I can eat for England.

Ur cutting I assume - I don't now how much females need to eat but i'd assume your mainteance is above 1800

One question Tat - does heat destroy IGF-1.

I just thought about this - heat denatures whey (destroys cysteine), so could microwaving oats or cooking oats in milk destroy IGF-1.

If so - i guess I better stick to cold oats (sigh)

I should probably stop having hot casein shake pre-bed (Ascend miscellar casein + cocoa + stevia tastes awesome though)

Oh, your question from before, yes, I am dieting for a bodybuilding qualifier, I have just gotten really serious in the last month.

High heat denatures protein (unravels it), but so does strong acid (like that in your stomach).

Some things obviously make it through the gut intact, how people figure this out I would really like to know, some sort of radio isotope or other marker and some kind of scanning?

Add in the milk afterwards.

I am not that keen on microwaves, I use them as little as possible.

You can just boil water in the kettle and pour them over the oats and let them sit for a few minutes, it cooks them enough, then add whey and milk (for those that don't want any more dishes/pots and pans than you already have)

:)
