What made you start bodybuilding?

Hey guys, just wondering what it was, if anything that made you start bodybuiding.
For me i think it was due to what i watched as a young child. Always used to watch HE Man and can remember the first time i saw Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Terminator. I'm pretty sure thats why I started, how about you?

Well I played sports before and during high school so I lifted for those... But ther real reason I kept wit hthe lifting was because I was a pretty fat kid and teenager until i was about 17-18, and I loved how I felt while working out and I loved what it was doing to my body, aesthetically. It made me more enregetic in everything I did as well as feeling good about myself and the way I was beginning to look.

YUM

I started training b/c of football, I did play runningback at a D1 college-I was more into bodybuilding and stopped playing football-I got up to 290 in college, a little bit large for a runningback.

My father was a bodybuilder, had one hell of a physique and pound for pound was one of the strongest mo-fo's I have ever known. He outlifted the biggest gargantuans in the gym.I always idolized him as a kid and wanted to be like him,so when I turned 15,he took me out and showed me the ropes.I couldn't imagine life without training now.

I started training cause I was close to 25%bf and was always a little porker as a kid.. I just want to see my damn abs!!! The underlying reason would be to get more girls though..

My old man was a BB and a stong mo fo, Sclaradema struck him down and made him go from 225lbs to 75lbs when he died drowning on his own fluids.

Before he died he told me, take care of your body and mother. I could careless about my mother so I chose the other advice.

I went from a 145lb geek to a 185lb dork now :)
My goal is to reach his max bench of 350lbs in his honor.

Dad beat the shit out of me and my mom for his aerobic activity. When he wasn't a drunken prick, we watched boxing and BB when it was on. I remember seeing Robby Robinson, Franco, Arnie, Coe and Zane on Wide World of Sports. I thought it looked cool. I had a pussy complex because of the ass whippin I took so I'd rather know it won't happen again and if it does, I'll be a factor. Didn't appreciate the health aspect til I hit about 30. Now its a lifestyle and I'd rather be the good guy big mother fucker

HAHA you hammerhead, I thought I was the only guy on the planet that thinks his mother is a wacked out bitch.

I loved the comic book Conan when I was little - so I wanted to be a big guy. The the movie came out with Arnold and I knew I had to look like him (which my genetics will never allow.....)

i think thats what did it for me HE Man ;)

It was Arnold Schwarzenegger who, in the late 70s and early 80s, was present on many ads in magazines offering stupid products. His muscles fascinated me and that was the beginning
of my admiration.

Arnold made BB popular. He is the man!

I'm tired of being the small guy. I hang out with guys that are taller than I am (6' 4" to 6' 7"), and they've always been stronger than me, and obviously, bigger than me. It sucks to constantly be used as the reference point for "what is small".

Only one of my friends works out, and all of their diets suck, so I'm catching up now. :)

Holy shit bro, do you hang out with a pro basketball team or what(6'4''-6'-7''):D :fro:

all my life ive stuck around people who where geneticly gifted, they have very low body fat, amazing cuts, good amount of muscle, although their diets are very poor, drink beer regularly, junk food is ther main food intake, and they never ever trained>
thats where i got all my advice from:(

Nah, when you're an incurable smartass, you learn to make friends with big guys!

:D

One of 'em used to be a high school football player, offensive and defensive line, but no basketball players...

Used to be a skater. Typical look of a skater 130lb(11 years ago) Doc martins, flanel shirts, cut off jean shorts (a geek Ed Vedder) hair and all. Got in a couple of fights due to how I looked. Said fuck this and started to train. Hav'nt had a real fight since

To be different than everyone else. Lifting weights and being big sets you apart from everone. You have a common bound with your weightlifting budies. So to ansewer the question I was tired of being small and weak and chose to lift and I haven't turned back since.
