what kind of dog?

HappyScrappy said:

what about a beagle or a dachshund (although the latter are a crapshoot - sometimes they are calm, sometimes they are little nutjobs - especially the wirehaired ones)

yeah my parent's also had a little beagle, really sweet dog, but it has medical problems, (most do) and is really over weight, funny, her belly hit's the floor when she walks lol. she's calm but not phlegmatic by any means, as most people claim.

Wow it's funny that you mention these dogs becuase that's what I was thinking before I opened the thread :) I want to get one for my son so they can wear each other out. You are going to have to walk him daily!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in the same boat.. I wanted to get a dog but didnt want a dog that was as demanding as a JRT. I also didn't want to deal with the shedding and all of that crap. I live in a condo and cant have anything over 20lbs..

After some research I went with an Italian Greyhound. They have very short hair and are one of the few odorless dogs. they are built with big dog proportions but are tiny, around 14lbs or so full grown. a quick run or walk, even playing around the house is enough exercise for them. They jump high as hell and run like the wind, so a little baby gate wont hold them in.. I had a 2 ft baby gate to hold my dog in the kitchen, it lasted 15 minutes before he could clear it and run around the house.. If you need to keep them somewhere it needs to be in a cage or they will escape.
