What kind of Background check does companies do?

They asked for my birthdate if that tells you what kind of check they want. Is it a criminal check to see if I comitted any crimes. I have not been convicted of anything criminal in the past...is that the type of things they look for?

Because you said "I have not been convicted," leads me to believe that you have been arrested, and or detained. Correct?

Anyway, if they have your social security number they can find out everything about you. Literally.

More than likely, they will do a basic background check to see if you have any outstanding warrants. They will also look to see if you were ever arrested. DUI and what not.

From a strict legal standpoint, arrests are basically irrelevant if you were never convicted. Tens of thousands of people are arrested every year, and not convicted. It is no big deal.

But keep in mind, this company could basically say "He's been arrested. No way are we hiring him." And it won't matter if you've never been convicted.

Feel free to PM if you need any more info.

They typically check for felonies in any states.

so if a case is sealed, that doesnt show up in their search?

No, the record of the case will show up, they just can't get the details.

just doing a little research, found this interesting snipet,

"Once a criminal record is sealed, all of the proceedings in it are treated as if they never occurred. Persons may then properly and lawfully answer any questions about the arrest, acquittal, conviction etc., as if they never happened. NRS 179.285. For example, it is OK in a job interview or even under oath to deny a sealed conviction. "
