what is karma?

i dont mean elite fitness karma...i mean karma in real life...as my understanding, it makes elite karma seem petty...i have heard it mentioned several times the past few days in the real world...just want to hear ur guys takes on it...is it sorta like a "what goes around, comes around type thing?"

I spend alot of my time trying to treat others well, and doing good deeds. Still waiting on some of that positive karma to come back around to me though. LoL
