what is a real estate agent like as a career

You need to be a good communicator above all else. The job itself is not rocket science, but if you can communicate well with people you will do ok.

Don't bullshit......there are plenty that do, but if you want to make a lasting career, you need an impeccable reputation. Once you'e lost your repuation, you'll never get it back.......and word can travel very fast.

You need to be persistant but sensitve at the same time. There are alot of frustrations involved beause you are dealing with people's emotions when it comes to selling real estate........can be very trying at times.

Come up with new and innovative ways to market yourself and the properties you are selling...........it's very ifficult for people to distinguish between agents because most offer the same service........be innovatve to get an edge.

And remember, you are working for the owner........he is the one who pays your fees.......not the buyer. Too many agents forget that and put pressure on the owner to sell or to accept a lower price to get the sale

Everything that VG said - AND it's all commissions, so you better have a nest egg and be good with budgeting your money.

Thanks for the advice guys... Im approaching 32 years old... is that too old to start...

It's an ideal age.

Given that most home owners are in their 30's, 40's, 50's etc.......many prefer to deal with a more 'mature' person than a 22 year old kid, irrespectve of whether the 22 year old could do a good job.

Rush- i just started studying for my license. But i have to have a broker's license to eventually own my uncle's real estate property managment company. I won't be working for an agency like ReMax or Century 21, etc.

I say go for it! 32 is young, you still have at least 25 working years left. Good luck!!

Prepare to be squeezed out of the market by the Internet and people sick of paying commissions to unqualified idiots.

The most successful real estate agents have some sort of connections socially - it's how you get the high end properties.

Commercial real estate is the way to go sir, if you must go that route.

I work closely with one of the country;s foremost real estate authorities doing a lot of residential (and getting into more commerical) real estate.

Among people whoknow, brokers aera nuisance. Because of the Intneret, the circel of people who know is getting bigger.

Dying breed.
