What happens when you get an abcess?

you get to have it I&D'd and then irrigated, then packed with iodoform to let it heal from the inside out....no fun and not pretty.

My partner and a good friend of mine fromLA both got absecces this year. My partner had one in both cheeks, I suspect from not injecting deeply enough, because I was using the same gear. His was caugth early enough to be treated with antibiotics, but it was very painful for him. My friend in LA had to have it chopped out, then irrigated every day, etc., etc., very painful for him too.

Lesson: always use sterile injection techiques and don't be a pussy when you pick a needle. My partner was using 1" needles on his butt, and I don't think he wa getting the gear in deep enough.

Hmm, think the needle came out a bit at the end of the injection. Got a bit of a hard area under the skin, not rock hard just firm. Its not at all painful and its not growing but its been there for a couple of days now. Could it develop into something worse or do you think it will just disperse??

its a hell of a DIY project :)

Give it some time to dissipate, could just be a bit of the oil there; I've had those "knots" which go away within a week or so. But watch for signs of infection--redness, hot to the touch. Swelling could be a sign that white blood cells are raiding the area, and if it starts growing and oozing puss, you'e defintiely infected. DOn't let it get that bad. See a dr. before and be up front and tell him what you've ben doing.

Ok. I've decided to nip to my local A&E in the morning as getting a docs appointment takes forever.

Over here AS arent illegal to have or use, only to sell, so its not a problem. I'm just gonna tell the nurse i stuck a steroid injection in my ass and am a bit concerned it may have gone a bit wrong!
Then if necessary they can give me some antibiotics before it gets any worse.

Will have a nice long soak in a hot bath tonight though and see if that helps, hopefully it is just a bit of oil that needs to melt away!

Cheers guys.

I had an abcess on my ass once but it wasn't steroid related. I just heated it and basically opened it up myself and drained it daily. I was also on some sort of antibiotic i forget which one tho. By the time I got to the doc for him to drain it it was healing on its own. But yours may be worse.

Well I've been at the gym tonight, had a great workout with 20 min on the cross trainer and my hard lump seems to be going away! Still gonna have a nice hot soak though, thats always gooood!

Cheers guys!

In order to get an abcess there has to be some bacteria (or other microorganism) that gets through the skin with the injection. It can come from the gear itself, from not keeping the needle sterile, or from the surface of the skin.

Proper injection techniques can sometimes save your ass (literally) even with a dirty injection because the body can take care of most foreign microorganisms easily as long as they don't have a chance to multipy before the body's defenses can attack them. If you inject improperly and the gear does not dissipate quickly, this gives the infection an area in which to get started.

However, if the injection is truly sterile, then you cannot get an abcess even if the injection is not deep enough. - FYI

good post

Thats good news then, I give every injection site a good rub with a alcohol swab before and after the injection and always make damn sure nothing touches the pins, i'm extremely cautious of this. Anyway, seems to be about gone now so all is good!

Thanks again.

Its just the oil dispersing. If you do get an abcess you will know all about it and then go directly to your GP or A&E. The hard ''bubble' will disperse just keep totating injection sites and massaging

Wrongun!

Yes would be painful and always advisable to rotate injection sites so as to allow recovery
