What does written/charged off mean on credit report

two of my cards i havent received a bill on in ages for like 3 thousand say written and charge off as of june 2003.

I was served with a civil summons on one of these cards though last week. This one sayd status -transferred, acount charged off. charged off as of sept 2002. .

The other 2 say charged off, 3,918 witten off

It basically means that they did everything short of sueing you to get their money, and just wrote off the debt as uncollectable.

It's not good!

They've put it on their books as lost money and sold the debt to someone else for pennies on the dollar.

Next time start a company named Enron, and that way you can scam people and still appear legitimate. There's a lot less proteciton for individuals.
