Now it is not much more than a men's social group.

My entire family are freemasons. It isn't that big of a deal anymore.

There are many different levels aren't there. Entry/public levels, private levels, etc.

My grandfather was pretty big on some level in Kentucky, but they don't tell me lots about the levels. My father was the one that told me that my grandpa was a big deal. My father always thought it was silly, but when he married into the family, my grandfather pretty much required him to join masons. Then, he even paid my dad's dues for many years after my parents were even divorced. It is a big deal in my mom's family.

I wish they ruled the world, like people think that they do since DaVinci Code, but they do not...lol.

Did you know Ben Franklin was seen as some of their "gatherings"?

No shit, my uncle has been heavily involved for years. Think Fraternity for grown men but they get together and drink like college guys. If they rule the world then my uncle needs to hook me the fuck up! :)

so you are disagreeing they have a focus on religion?
Most of the founding father's that everyone claims were masons were also deists, they were products of the age of enlightenment.

Cults are not always associated with negativity.

The fact that Masons use temples, altars, a moral code, worship services, vestments, feast days, a hierarchy of leadership, initiation and burial rites, and promises of eternal reward and punishment I think they do seem to fall under a religious group.

I have nothing against them but they are basically a cult.

When I say cult I don't mean a satanic cult. I mean a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols. (per dictionary.com)

you probably don't even know any masons.

People watch too much of the history channel's sensationalist stuff and then think that they are still running around on horses with the knights templar. Geez.

I do know Masons.. Am I best friends with them? No, but you don't learn something from knowing someone you learn from experiencing it. You aren't in it, therefore; you know nothing about it. So what I hear is incorrect and what you hear is correct? There is a huge Mason's "guild" in my town and I'm not ignorant enough to believe they are stuck in medieval times. If you are going to argue the statements I posted earlier than argue them but the fact is it is a published fact from Mason's on their website about their practices, therefore; your argument would fall upon deaf ears.

The US military has specific burial rites, initiation, traditions, vestments, a moral code, hierarchy of leadership but I wouldn't consider it a cult.

Blood wings.....

The US military was not derived from a religion either.. If I'm not mistaken were the Mason's people who seperate from the Protestant religion at one time?

I know a lot of them. My best friend is a Mason and has invited me to their dinner.

But I have not joined them, yet. It is one hell of a network and they look out for each other.

No. I don't think so.

and, it was originally a trade guild of masons. They had some religious traditions and such but so do many other groups and fraternities. That doesn't make them a cult.

Does this make them a cult?

Albert Pike (33 Degree, the highest degree you can obtain) was quoted in a book published by Masonic Lodge as saying

"Lucifer, the Light-bearer! Strange and mysterious name to give to the Spirit of Darkness! Lucifer, the son of the morning! Is it he who bears the Light, and with it's splendors intolerable blinds feeble, sensual or selfish Souls? Doubt it not!" Morals and Dogma page 321

You need to watch less TV, dude. Do you also believe that Nostradamus crap?

While I know that secret societies are exciting, don't let your imagination run wild. Masons are not devil worshipers or a cult. They are far more ordinary than that. I almost wish they were. It would be far more interesting.

They are a bunch of fat old guys drinking beer and bringing the covered dishes that their wives made for a pot luck dinner...lol.

I've worked with them on a very high level for years. They thrive on the ignorance (not in a bad way) of people like you.

They are not a religion, religion offers answers and salvation. Freemasonry offers enlightenment and.... more questions. Its the art of introspection.
