What do you do when a Thunder Storm

dont worry about it if you have a surge protector....if you dont you might want to un-plug your pc and monitor from the wall. just shutting it down wont help. if you have a surge just dont have anything important opened, like a word document your working on or the power might shut off and you'll lose it

the only thing that protects ur puter from a direct lightening hit is
nothing.
I got my puter hit a cpl years ago, the lightening hit my doorbell, and my kids tv as well
the doorbell was smoking from the hit, knocked the button on the outside of the door off, it was scary crap
and i had a surge protector on my puter too. fried that baby
the only FOR SURE thing, is to unplug it
btw there are storm warnings and tornado watches here till 7 am......i hate storms and tornadoes
I was told by the electric company that i could buy 4 surge protectors for 100 bucks, it may be a good investment, scary crap i always undo my puter when it storms along with my tv and everything else that i think is important

Comes your way? :worried:

Do you shut down your computer?

unplug the puter, then I grab my electic guitar, my steeltoe work boots and go on the roof and jam while I'm leaning up agaist the tv antenna.

exactly, mine got hit thru the cable modem, i unhook my cable modem now, unless i Know its not gonna storm

I take my chances I guess and keep everything plugged in. For those with surge protectors, don`t they have warranties on those things? Some have $40,000 worth of electronic equipment coverage if it does`nt work. It may not cover lightning, not sure.

my parents have house insurance so I sit on here the whole time,if it gets hit meh insurance will buy me a new one

it covers surges, and if u read the fine print, it does NOT cover direct lightening hits. The guy from the electric company told me that the ones they sell will stop lightening, but i dont know, i dont think much can stop lightening

No shit, who gets hit by lighting,? I lived in missouri for 14 years, some of the nastiest weather in the states, and my house has never taken a direct hit, nor have I ever shut my pc down during a storm. I’m 25 years old and I’ve never met or heard of anyone’s home taking a direct hit and blowing their pc.. "SURGE" protector or surge suppressors gaurd your pc from spikes…maybe I’m just lucky and they work for me i dont know

We have some of the nastiest storms, last month a direct hit a pine tree at a customers house when i arrived it looked like a bomb had exploded in the back yard the tree literally exploded there was bark everywhere, even the roots you could see where the current traveled underground one led to the padio where it proceeded out of the ground and traveled the iron railing blowing out chunks of concrete as it went!
Everything in that house that was plugged into the wall was damaged or destoryed.

i love when it rains but i never see rain out west much

but a few summers ago while working a golf course (mid west) i was at work and my gf who played golf some what came too and it started to rain so me and me and some other workers closed up and she waited for me as we closed and it was still raining so we decided to walk in the rain for no reason and we had sex in a sand trap while it rained
