Aside from bioinformatics, what careers are there (preferably research oriented) where you do medical research using mathematics?

medical statistics (disease incidences, drug trials etc)

pharmacodynamics, phamacokinetics, immunology (parasite-prey relationships, antigenic variation in viral replication, evolution of antibiotic resistance in bacterial populations, immune response curves or how fast can you make B and T cells, bioinformatics/stats concerning proteomic databases, mathamatical modeling of disease outbreak and appropriate response (epidemiology)....

what kind of math do you like?

I personally am a big fan of neural nets. if you like non-linear stuff, that is used in all kinds of things - but I like the statistical probability side.
used frequently in hospitals to predict the likelyhood of all kinds of stuff.

Become a pharmacist. You have to count the pills before putting them into the jar.

if you own your own place you make big $$.
you are effectively a legal drug dealer.

if you are a pharmacist working for someone else, you make much less - but I'm not sure of the figures.

also you have to wear those lab coats all the time and deal with old people.
