What can i do different to build my Lats

Ok right now my goal is to build my lats to be a little wider. I am thinking of adding some deadlifts and droping some sets of bb rows. Cause right now this is what i do.

BB Row-295 5x5
DB Row-140 3-10
Wide grip pullups 3-12
Narrow grip reverse pulldowns

Now do you think i could and in some deads and drop the bb rows to like 3 sets instead of 5?

I did allot of pullups, deads, militarys, BB rows & dips, to get my lats to where they are today.. but everyone is different, but try these, they worked really good for me.

Throw some chins in there bro or exchange some of your pull downs for chins. Pull downs are ok but chins rule the school. As far as your deadlift question, IMHO....Deads are great for working your overall back structure, not to mention other muscle groups and they would be a added bonus to any back workout.

i like your routine as it is..deads will thicken the back of your body and are important for a good back..your using pretty good weight on bb rows make sure your form is good otherwise youre not working the intended muscle (lats)..

deads wont do much, if any, for growth in your lats. they are mainly for the lower back, and legs. i like your back workout. very similiar to mine, except that i like to do seated rows with the v-bar. you should give these a try. also, if you have a chest supported row machine, this will help with your lats. you could also try t-bar rows.
if you dont have a t-bar machine...put a bar on the floor, and put your plates on one end. take the v-bar, and put the bar (with the plates) inside the v section so that the handles are on either side. if you have a training partner, have them stand on the very end of the other side of the bar. if no partner, try to wedge the bar into a corner, or something that will prevent it from lifting up when you do the row. stand with your feet shoulder width apart, with the bar between your legs. grasp the handles of the v-bar, and row it. take the same stance you would for BB Rows.

time out..i hate when people say deads do nothing for the back..ever hear of spinal erectors??? you cant hit those with rows chins etc..i did forget to mention my fav and illuminati reminded me..t-bar rows in the corner..the chest support row is good but it crushes my lungs when i get to my work sets so i try to avoid it

wnt2bbeast...i wasn't saying that they would do nothing for your back. i ment to say that they wont do much for the lats. goodfellow was looking to widen his lats. IMO he would be better off doing the rows instead of dropping them for the deads if he is looking to widen his back. yes, deads work the spinal erectors to a tremendous degree. these are the muscles in the lower back on either side of the spinal column. the lats lie across the middle section of the back.

Sup -

Here is what I think is missing from your routine that will make your lats EXPLODE. Seriously, do this:

weighted pullups 5x5. Don't go with a wide grip, do it underhanded abour parallel with your shoulders, maybe a little wider. Use a heavy weight between your legs so that you rest-pause (20 seconds) to finish the 4th set and can't finish the 5th set.

Drop what you are doing now. Throw in a 2x10 lat pulldown and wide-grip seated cable row, and do something heavy for lowerback (like deads) for either high and light or low and heavy.

i know lol i think that one should develop a total back which includes the spinal erectors..i agree they may not do much for your lats..when guys drop bf and have good definition in the back its pretty damn easy to tell who pulls and who dont..i think his back routine is good but if hes looking for a little change i liked your idea of tbar rows and he could drop BB rows down to 3x5 and add deads in at 2x5

i too, think that one should fully develop the back, and at the same time, attention must be paid to the shoulders. sure, you hit them in some way with almost every upperbody exercise that you do, but if your shoulders are lagging, you wont get as nice of a V taper to the body. IMO the back is the most impressive group of muscles. nothing looks better than being able to see all the ripples and separation on the back muscles, and it looks even more impressive when the BF is dropped like you said.

Oh - and one more thing re: What I said. Throw in a 2x10 on db shrugs - I know that's not lats, but it completes your back work that I outlined.

i do seated rows and get great results

Count another vote on the wide grip weighted chins from me.... If you can do wide grip chins for sets of 8 with a 45 or more on your waste.. your gunna have some lats...

Regular grip weighted chins are best for the lats imo. I have to agree on the deads for developing the erectors and lats. Any form of heavy dead or clean will develope the erectors which are more important than the lats technically speaking and your lats will grow because they are one of the major supporting muscles when doing deads and cleans of any type. I like dumbell stiff legged deads cuz you can stretch the shoulders at the bottom and and contract them on the way up which adds to the erector, lats, and traps development. I always do deads before specific back work as it seems to make me stronger and more warmed up when I get to the chins and rows. Just my fiddy cents.
