what are core lifts?

Don't forget close grip press for the tri's and shoulder presses. Basically the core lifts are the ones with the big movements that you use the heaviest weights with. These are not designed to isolate.

Squats, deadlift, and flat bench are the core lifts. All that other stuff is good but i wouldn't consider them as the core.

Those are the core powerlifting and mass lifts, but each muscle group does have its own core lift.

bb curls not a core lift? I''ve only done these with weighted chins for my bi's they are mos definately a bicep core lift

Thanx guys, can you also tell me what close grip press's are?

No bb curls are not a core lift. Neither are skull crushers or bent over rows. A core lift is a compound movement that recruits multiple muscle groups during the exercise(deadlift, power clean, bench, squat). It's not "working the core of the muscle" as it sounds like you're interpreting it with "bicep core lift." BB curls are an isolation exercise. However the way people do them in my gym, you could arguably call them a core lift because of how much lower back and swinging is involved.

Here it is straight off a website:
Explain the difference between Core lifts and Auxiliary lifts.

Core lifts - any lift that uses the major muscle groups or a lift that uses multi-jointed effort during the lift. Usually a large group of muscles are at work
Examples: Bench press, Squats, Power cleans, Push press.

Auxiliary lifts - any minor muscle group. Usually a small group or individual muscles.
Example: Arm curls, Triceps extensions, Leg curls, Leg extensions.

Close grip presses are done on either flat or incline bench. Instead of the normal, wider grip that you use when you bench, you move your hands in closer to each on the bar. This causes the triceps to get targeted more.

Squats, Deads Cleans and jerk, Bench, Close grip press. military press, Front squats, you know all the shit peopl don't want to do because they are hard and intense:mad:

when he said core lifts, i was trying to give him some for some other bodypart. Are bb curls as important as deads, squats. No., not even close. yes, they also are not compound movement either. But I would always recomend them over say conc. curls or machine curls, esp. for a beginner. The man sounds new to the game, and I was just tryin' to help.

you can also do variations of the 3 main core lifts, ie stiff legged deads, front squats, rack deads, incline barbell press etc.
