weighted dips...

You can make one fairly cheap. Just get a chain at a hardware store and some rubber tubing to slide over the chain for padding. Add a D or O ring and you are good to go. I made one like this and it works just fine.

just do a Goggle search on DIP BELT and you will find a ton of them. they range from $25 to $40.

Get one that is stiched with a long chain. A short chain is murder.

I've been thinking about this for the past few days. It seems the position of the belt around the waist seems to pull me more vertical when doing the dips. Since you need to lean forward to hit your chest, it seems it would be better if the weight was attached somewhere around your shoulders. Is there a harness designed like that? If not, I think using a backpack, but hanging it on you backwards would help keep you leaning forward better, than the weight hanging from your waist. Any opinions on this?

I find it's much easier to hold the dumbells between my knees than my ankles. You may wanna try that.

I dip for triceps and chest... very heavy compared to most people... and a dip belt works just fine for me. You control the emphasis by how you hold your body... and where you look.

I picked up a dip belt at "Play it Again Sports" for 15 bucks. I am not sure if they have those in other states or not, but it's a place that sells new and used excercise equipment. My belt is brand new.

Damn... I pinched my thigh between the chain and a plate this morning doing them and have a bruize now. A dumbell between the knees is fine hellboy... until you get strong. You aren't going to hold a #150 between your knees very well.

I have a lifting belt I use just for this, I tied rope to it and then make special knots to tie the weight to it, works fine, $20 bucks for the belt and the rope was free.

I made one for about $6 today, although I already had a snap connector. I just bought about 7 feet of chain and some vinyl tubing to go around it. Works and looks great. Thanks for the tip bigguns.

Definately saves a buck, and works just fine.

I used to use a piece of rope. You tie off both ends... then double loop it. It hurts a little but works fine.

For first timmers on this exercise, someone should invent a "gyroscopic anti-swing device". ;)

Until I got the hang of it, I often looked like a pendullum.

Used the belt today. Very comfortable with one plate. Only did a couple reps with two plates but they sorta hurt. Nothing unbearable though.

Cross your ankles. Same as with chins. It'll keep ya from swingin. It's magic.

That must be what did it. After doing them for a while, I stopped swinging as bad, and I do cross my ankles now.
Cool to know.
