Weight gain on and off AS

Experimented with diet prior to first cycle. I'm 5'11" 205 with 14%bf. Was eating 2200 cal p/d and took it up to 32-3400 cal p/d. Did this for 2 months, +1000 cal p/d, gained 16 lbs which looked to me as all fat. Have dieted back down now and going to start my 1st cycle. Question/ will the caloriies metabolize differently when on AS.
