The point of my thread was in relation to the neverending cycle of violence and crime in the US as portrayed on those shows rather than the quality of American TV.

I couldn't even imagine going for a one week vacation to the States let alone living there.

Because lets face it, the average person isnt that bright. Commercials, tv shows, etc are mostly made for and marketed to those with average intelligence. Those people would rather watch a 30 minute long gay joke than something like Futurama. Sad I know.

And I'm sure Cops probably reflects badly on the US, but you cant act like that is happening 24/7 in every city, VG. Cameramen go on ridealongs with the police and film. I'm sure there are plenty of times where nothing happens or the cop just gives out tickets. They try to only show exciting things on the TV show (like chases) so people will stay tuned in.
