Waxy Maize

What is all the craze about wazy maize? I am thinking I should jump on the post workout bandwagon, but really I do not see what makes it so "special?" Just a complex carb right?

For those who love it, what is the BEST waxy maize supp (this next part is important) WITHOUT creatine as an ingredient.

K for helpful answers.

Waxy Maize has a much higher molecular weight and a much lower osmolarity rate compared to dextrose or maltodextrin, so what does this mean. Mainly, Waxy Maize bypasses the stomach, is absorbed by the intestines and immediately is assimilated; this is all done at a much faster rate than dextrose or maltodextrin, almost double\

looks like a good sales pitch on this one. To tired to research it right now though,

Here's a quick cut & paste from another site on WMS.....

Waxy maize starch is a long-chain, high molecular weight, carbohydrate that’s 100 times larger than maltodextrin and 3000 times bigger than dextrose. Waxy maize starch is sugar-free, yet moves through the stomach 80% faster than either dextrose or maltodextrin and helps facilitate rapid glycogen resynthesis and nutrient uptake into the muscles. Gone are the days of bloating and cramping!

Here’s a great analogy that perfectly explains the advantages of a high molecular weight carbohydrate such as waxy maize starch. Imagine you're swimming in the ocean and a cruise ship passes by. The sheer weight of the ship displacing all that water will cause a vacuum that’ll, very effectively, suck you into the wake of the ship. Now imagine that you're swimming in the water and a jet ski passes by. In comparison to the cruise ship, the Jet Ski barely weighs more than you do and, consequently, won't affect your position in the water. Similar to the cruise ship, waxy maize starch (because of its sheer size) pulls wateras well as any other nutrients (e.g. amino acids, creatine, or glutamine) that are consumed with it into the blood stream and, then, into the muscle cells where they can be used for muscle growth and repair.

I jumped on the Waixy Maize bandwagon pretty quick an to be honest i couldn't stand it. I tried two different kinds and they were both nasty as hell. Chalky, bitter, and bloating the hell out of me. A new studied conducted at another site....would someone please confirm that I can post a link to another site...stated that it's not worth the hype and pretty much about as useless as white bread when it comes to postworkout. Here are the conclusions...

So in spite of hours of investigation, I just couldn't find any reason to use WMS. Even speaking to a dozen or so people from the companies that sell it, couldn't provide me with one single study about this substance. Worse than simply not being able to justify claims about its rapidity, most of the available information suggests that WMS is a poor carbohydrate to use after training.

To put all of this in perspective, it's possible that the WMS we're using has worse digestive/absorptive properties than white bread. We can hope that our product contains "faster" WMS, which will undoubtedly become the new claim, but even at best this is similar to dextrose and maltodextrin. Considering that dextrose is the cheapest supplement in existence, this begs the question: what are we paying for?

I've found wms needs to be heavily diluted in water for proper absorption. Try it in a 5-7% solution of water. 1 liter of water for every 40g of WMS is about right imo.

There's different types of wms. They are made from different starches or something like that. The right ones absorb quickly but the poor ones absorb poorly. I"m not sure which is good I got this info a bb.com

Yeah you're supposed to drink a shit load of water with it leading to another reason it makes you so bloated. Ryno, if I were you I'd google or find a free sample somewhere and try it before you buy some. Literally, the two types I tried tasted like complete shit. Just has a waxy, grainy, bittery, sticky, and bloats the hell out of you. Can I post the link off of bb.com on the article about wms?
