Water during cardio

I have heard a couple of times that if you are just a bit under hydrated that you loose a certain amount of your strenght during weight lifting and cardio. My question is that true and how much water should i drink a hour before my workout and after i do my weights how much water should i drink right before cardio and DURING cardio????????
 
maing. As a general rule, water is one of the few thins in life where you cannot have much of it... (of course you could if you really tried and end up with a distended stomach).

I drink about 1.5 ltrs while lifting, about 1ltr for cardio and about 1 ltr in my Post Work out shake.

Being dehydrated is NEVER a good thing, so drink up
 
There was recently a lot of press coverage of people getting too much water during endurance events. You should be careful - too much water changes the osmotic balance in your system.

The solution is not too over drink but to also make sure you get enough electrolytes (esp sodium and potassium) to keep that balance.

I have a post stickied above about a great sports drink that does this without a whole lot of sugar.
 
Actually, you CAN have too much of it. Too much water without compensatory electrolytes can lead to hyponatremia and hypokalemia, both of which can make you MUCH weaker than simple dehydration or in extreme circumstances, kill you.

Many cases of so-called "heat exhaustion" are actually one of the above conditions, brought about by sweating out a lot of body salts without replenishing them. Trying to run muscles without a sufficient ion supply is sort of like trying to operate a car without a fuel pump.

Mixing 1/4 tsp of salt and 1/4 tsp of potassium chloride( salt "substitute" ) into each L of water that you drink during exercise will go a long way toward preventing this.

Only problem is it tastes like ass.
 
I have a question on this subject. I drink a lot of water but recently I have changed when I drink it. I drink 1 liter with breakfast and a liter with my workout adn then I have in between 1/2 and 1 liter with my post workout shake before cardio. The only problem is that drinking that much water in that short of time (between 2 1/2 and 3 hours I am so full I feel like I am going to puke. Also I get side cramps if I drink any water before cardio and I can't get through a cardio session without having to stop and go to the bathroom cause I can't hold it anymore. Anysugestion on when I should drink my water
 
I think even during dieting, you should still drink a gatorade during workout, opposed to having dextrose immediately after.
 
wouldn't work for me as I need to get my cardio done after lifting. Don't want all those carbs in me while doing cardio for fat loss
 
true, i do my cario in the morning.

what I've actually started to do, is go early in the morning and do a compund movement (cleans, etc...) to kind of get warmed up, then do cardio for 40 minutes. I'll do this 2-3 times a week, and then lift 4-5 times a week.

i have notice times where i feel i am gonna puke also .... but what i relize is that i was drinking to much water at once so i still drink a lot of water but over a longer period of time.... not i take 30 mins to a hour to drink a 1.5 litter of water instead of trying to gulp it down at one time.
