washing your hands

is it the actual soap that cleans them or is it the water ? is there any bacteria killing ingriedients in soap ?

There is no bacteria killing ingriedients in soap, normal soap that is. the reason soap helps to wash things is it breaks down the surface tension of the water. What this boils down to is it allows the water to flow into narrower crevices to clear out the dirt and such that is there. Today I'm sure most soap products have some type of anti-bacteria agent in them to help sterilize things.

One cool thing that I've seen to help them understand surface tension is they will have a water bug, you know, one of those bugs that whisks across the top of the water, and it will be in a tank on the water and then they drop in a bit of liquid soap onto the water. When they do this the waterbug falls into the water no longer able to stand on it.

that would be a cool experiment brad. i have a little pond in my living room with about 50 of those little striders on top. i bet they would die. on second thought i like them. thats a terrible idea! anti-bactrial soap kills about everything on your hands, including the good bacteria. makes the bad stuff grow faster when they come back. i dont really wash my hands much, unless ive been in public places touching shit. i hate golden corral.

A pond in your living room? Do you live outside? You are right about the anti-bacterial soap. It does kill good and bad bacteria alike.

I'll give you 100$ if you can go a year without washing your hands. Put on rubber gloves when you take a shower. Do we have a deal?

doesn't the soap break down the oils produced by the body so that the water can wash away all the crap on your hand

no, i dont live outside :) . i have a kiddiie pool with a HID light hanging over it in my living room. black plastic lined so the purple octopus dont show up and scare the ladies. about 25 big goldfish and a turtle and crayfish and various plants and snails and such. its pretty cool, but im getting tired of it and i want the light for my 75 gallong tank, it would make a nice orange glow for an "evening" effect in the tank.

cool man

I'd like to get a saltwater tank set up but they are finickey I've heard and not too cheap for what I'd like.

the soap works like glue and sticks to the bacteria and dirt molecules so when the water washes it off it falls off and dies
